Possible Portal Point Guards

Their coach is on the hot seat, very well may get fired and Reynolds could just as well play 32 mins a game starting at SU. Not to mention their NIL is not in the same ballpark.

What does Nelson's scoring record have to do with anything? Ask a kid if he'd rather be the school's all-time scorer on another losing team or a massive NIL payout + top 25 team + a much greater chance at the NBA, they're taking the latter.

It most certainly could happen.
And he was Straughn recruit at St. Joe's.

Edit: Thanks Dean for the awesome podcast.

" values things that aren't conducive to winning"
Good Lord.
I know, right?

The actual line was Quadir values showmanship over ball security and winning.

Erik Reynolds. If he touches the portal, hes coming here
I would be on board with this - he’s not as good of a distributor as Judah but he’s a much more efficient scorer. 2 steals per game. 88% from the line and 39% from 3

Also another throwback name that we may take a look at is…Zion Cruz. He’s at JC and I’m sure will be looking to get back into D1. Didnt do much at Depaul but the talent is there

Ehhh I think we are better off going after mid
major players who put up big numbers than former high level recruits who have yet to produce. The top 25 has teams littered with these type of players.

I hope not. I would like a pt that can actually hit a 3. That is the game now.
I think Quadir can get better with practice. Coming into this season, we/Red expected Bell, Taylor and Starling to shoot the bulk of our threes. If Bell, Taylor and Judah all leave as many here are predicting or hoping, someone will need to step up even if we bring in a sharpshooter.

His field goal and three point shooting is 38% and 32%. His assists to turnovers is 2.8 to 2.3. Again, nothing to write home about. I think there will be better options out there. Last game he shot 18% from the floor. He’d fit right in with our current shooters.

Copeland will be the PG next year.
No, he won't.

I think Mintz is staying - he's still not good enough for the NBA, mentally and physically - if he goes, he'll be playing in the G league. The point here is we could have the same two Starling and Mintz next year.

We have already signed 6' 4" Elijah Moore a 4 Star shooting guard and 6' 9" Donnie Freeman a 4 Star PF. We currently stand in the the top ten. We've got a great start and more four stars waiting to set up visits.

This is going to be a vastly different team next year, a better one now that RED has a year under his belt.

Hopefully, there will be an exodus of the players that didn't belong and an influx of players that Red, Gerry and Alan have been recruiting. :)

What's also been made clear from this season is that the roster needs more versatility. When certain players are here because they do one thing really well, they quickly become liabilities when that one thing fails them. Taylor's shooting, Bell's shooting and Hima's inside presence are prime examples.

I'm fine with us having specialists, but our depth needs to be such that they're the ones coming off the bench rather than carrying the load.

Agree totally. I'm very much favor guys who have at least proven it at some level at this point, rather than hoping for the best on potential.

Not sure why Dayton gets so much love in the polls. Most people have them on a 4 or 5 seed line in a one bid league while they are tied with Loyola for first with 6 or 7 to go and Richmond has the tie breaker over them. Having said that... I will take a one year leave of absence from this board if he transfers from SJU to SU or anywhere else regardless of the coaching situation.

Playing forward at Pratt Community College, averaging about 15.3 ppg. Shoots 34% behind the 3-point line. 70% of FT and about three rebounds per game. These stats are not crazy, but they are not terrible either. But there is one other JUCO guard who is lighting it up and who we are familiar with...

Dior?

Dior?
Yes. I know he has had a very rough path through high school and early college but he had to be mentioned. Dropped 58pts in his last outing. I don't know much about the completion he faced but that is an incredible number.

Somebody mentioned Jaquan Carlos from Hofstra. Looked at his stats and then saw his teammate Dunbar. 6'8 F averages like 18/6.5 and 40+% 3PT. Sign me up. A good shooting forward is what this team needs in addition to PG and C.

Justin is a total bust, poor D and can not score. Any change there would be a huge team upgrade. I think Freeman may be the answer for that. Question will be can he do it as a Frosh?

I hope so. Sherm had a poor jump shot and that worked out ok. I am less worried about shooting than rebounding. We are desperate for big guys who can score and rebound.

Good grief. I would be stunned if we took a phone call from him let alone offered him a spot.

Those stats are not correct. He's 42% from the field, 39% from three. 2.8 assists to 1.7 turnovers. Not a high number of assists, but I don't know what his role on St. Joe's is. 1.7 turnovers is a good number if he is the primary ball handler which I believe he is. I would love to see this kid come to Cuse!

That’s fewer assists than Judah. The to/assist ratio is not good.

Given Quadir values things that aren't conducive to winning, Judah's game isn't conducive to winning, Bell's attitude isn't conducive to winning, Taylor's shooting isn't conducive to winning, Starling's inconsistency isn't conducive to winning, having 4 unplayable centers isn't conducive to winning, and Maliq not getting shots isn't conducive to winning, it's a miracle we ever win a game.
Most is correct but JJ hasgotten better every week we have played.

This will never happen. He has averaged over 32 minutes per game for the past three seasons. He also has a chance to become St Joe's all time leading scorer (Jameer Nelson) and have his number retired - one of only four retired numbers.
counterpoint: You have to play at St. joes
