Postgame Thoughts... Clemson

What makes me so angry is that this team is better than we have shown. Playing the zone in 2023 puts us at a competitive disadvantage that we cannot overcome.
-Benny is leaving. He is not particularly good. So why are we burning minutes on him?
-meanwhile for some reason since the Boston College game which we would not have won without him, Taylor has been exiled to the bench.
-Jesse looks terrible. I guess being 7 foot four and being asked to play 40 minutes and chase down guards on the wings take something out of a player.
-If JB returns if I were one of the assistant coaches I would jump ship next season so I wouldn’t be tainted. Because I can only assume after watching the last two games that none of these coaches have any idea what they are doing.
-there was no coaching in this game for Syracuse. There was no rhyme or reason to substitution patterns. They were absolutely no adjustments. There were no offensive plays. This to me was worse than anything we saw last year because this team at least has better players than last season.
-every game the other team shoots above its usual percentage from three. That is because they are playing against the defense that allows them to take wide open shots which are easier to make then contested shots. I am so sick of watching us play our pathetic outdated defense.
-guys have always gotten better at Syracuse as the season has progressed. Who can you say about that right now other than Judah?
-I honestly don’t think I have ever been this disgusted as a Syracuse fan.

Confession time- I am so disgusted as a fan of forty-seven years (my first yr at Cuse was Boeheim's first year as coach) that for the first time ever I was rooting for the other team as the second half wore on. I think the only way out of this hellscape is to just go down in flames the rest of the year and hope THAT is what finally wakes up someone in charge to make the move that everyone knows needs to be made.

Very sad to say but this team, and it is not even functioning as a team, has given up.

The program is now utterly lost at sea.

Problem with Cuse is we have hoopers but no ballers (except Judah). Where’s the fire and tenacity?
Boeheim at 78 has more fire than almost all our players
Let me explain. The zone D is like practicing in football without pads. It results in a soft culture to the program / team. And that’s just part of it. In terms of an actual game strategy , it’s pathetic

Clemson could have put up 120 if they wanted think about that. They didn't try to score the last 7 minutes and put up 90
They had two on one breakaways during the press and was just chucking, they could’ve won by 40.

I don’t think they took more than 3 contested shots the entire game. Total embarrassment.

We have alot of youth. Benny is kinda like a redshirt freshmen, No seniority on the wings.
While I don't totally agree with the thought, our zone has evolved into playing two players at once as opposed to the ball and your man, It certainly feels that way. We might get a step on anything in the paint with seniority, but when we lack the SENIORITY and weak side shotblocking, crisp in rhythm kick out passing with the occasional simple bounce pass inside is painful to see.

How is Benny like a redshirt freshman? Lost me right there.

The worst thing about this game is that with about 12 min left I. The game the team quit. They staryed just going through the motions. They quit, period. That should tell anyone everything they need to know about the coaching and current state of the program.

Cuse + Arby’s
We Have The Defeats!! :p
make it stop road trip GIF

I turned it off with 15 minutes left in the game. That’s the first time I’ve done that ever.

It's really hard.

It happened for me last year.

The losses don't completely ruin me anymore... I have changed my perspective, but it was tough to do that.

I am surprisingly hopeful now.

Flynn had two career one assist games in his career.

Yeah.

I understand the broader “problem” is not Mintz, but your point guard’s main duty is to set up his teammates first as the floor general. He, imo, is 99.9% focused on me first and it shows by his on court ways.

Example: Do you notice that the only time Mintz ever gets fired up, emotional, etc. is only after he scores…period! There’s nothing close to those antics and emotions when a teammate does something well, etc. at least not in my opinion or observation.

Additionally, that reverse under the basket dunk attempt (that he missed and as Bonner diplomatically uttered as extremely difficult) was all show boat watch me/what I can do garb versus simply laying it in.

Did you notice he is now being talked about as a 1st round draft pick?

It wasn't random that he took his most perimeter shots of the season (and hit them). He officially put himself in the shop window tonite.

He will be doing the same in our final games.

He's off.

Let me expound. Basically with this 2-3 zone, you have to choose between allowing an open 3, an open free throw distance jumper , or a dunk / layup from the baseline.

Oh, and if you get them to miss, there is a pretty good chance they get the rebound and get to try all over again.

If you look at their best zone defenses
1. They’re from a different era when not everyone could shoot 3’s.

2. They created a ton of turnovers thus limiting the times the opponent even got a shot up.

Clemson had only 7 turnovers tonight . That’s never going to work no matter who is out there on D

Apparently he's earned it, regardless of results. Like a Supreme Court Justice, Syracuse men's basketball coach is a lifetime appointment.

Two probations, being UNLV East, one blown up transition and a number of behind the scenes BS.

I’m convinced the people in power love him bc he’s a pseudo celeb for upstate NY.

At least we’re now floated by the guy hanging with Shkreli and Bilzerian.
