Postgame Thoughts... Lehigh

Echoing a lot of what’s already been said but it was great seeing Jesse be such a focal point of the offense. Felt like he got overshadowed last year obviously but when he gets a touch we usually get a pretty good look.

The forward minutes are going to be extremely interesting. Hoping Bell and/or Taylor can get settled and be a somewhat reliant 3 point shooter.

Can’t wait to get some revenge on Colgate (can’t believe that’s a real statement).

Can someone give me a player comparison for Malik Brown? I can’t come up with a good comp. He’s very smooth, but not flashy. Maybe too early to tell. I’d love to see him put on another 20lbs of muscle.
I think Kevin Freeman.

Overall I’d say positive, especially our big 3. They all have a different strengths, so they should be able to play off each other, and it showed tonight.

Other than them, we don’t have many other scoring options. We are going to need 30+ from Joe and Jesse every night just to be competitive, especially against good teams. I like Judah a lot but he will have games where he struggles to finish at the rim. But he gives us an threat we haven’t had in a while offensively.

I thought each of the freshman did things well. I think Taylor has the biggest chance to be the biggest impact guy other than Judah. He looks good athletically and is built well for a freshman. The shot is there too. Bell does have a nice stroke. I get why JB starts him, I think he wants the shooting threat in the starting 5.

Quadir will drive JB crazy, I think he’s going to see his minutes shrink as we get into ACC play. I think he will be a really good player and will end up doing so many things very well. But I don’t see JB playing more than 8 and with Joe/Judah/Sy there isn’t many minutes open in the guard spots. I think he’ll play a huge role next year.

By mid December, the Benny/Brown minute split at the 4 will be 20mpg each. Brown is the type of guy that will trust early, imo.

Overall I’d say I’m more optimistic than I was a week ago. We do have 10 guys we can play, which we haven’t had in a long time. We have a big, an elite shooter, and hopefully an elite shot creator (Mintz). I do question where the scoring will come from at times. But I think we’ll rebound and defend better than most people think.
We have a bunch of guys who are, at least in athletic ability, legit P5 conference players. That’s a foundation to build upon we havent had in a few years

This is going to sound bananas but Laphonso Ellis.

Far too early to actually tell hot take:
Benny Williams will barely be in the rotation come ACC play
I hear and SEE what you are saying but I am still pulling for Benny. JB had an entirely different coaching style with Benny tonight. On two different occasions we saw JB talking with Benny without berating him. I agree that Brown can replace him but I still think Benny's passing and athletic ability can give us a big bump. It is hard to erase the Duke game last year from my memory. Benny needs to stop shooting threes for now. When he can hit them consistently in practice then let him shoot them in a game.

Sy was insanely surprisingly good. Happy for him. He’s worked really hard. Think this team will get hot if they can take care of the ball at times. I’m worried about playing a bigger team but just really thrilled they were Playing man to man.

I don’t get why everyone says we can’t lose Benny… I’ve been supporting him since day 1 like we all have, but I seriously think this kid just can’t adapt and play at a consistently high level. I’m not being rude or mean or anything like that. But he has been in this program a long time now. Long enough to figure it out and he showed zero tonight. Sure he’s a great athlete, but that has gotten us zero so far with him.

Other than that I also thought Hima was a great surprise. Way more alert and engaged than I thought he was gonna be. Kudos to him

It’s actually just nice to have bball back!

I don't remember the last time I walked out of the dome with a smile that big after a basketball game. That was so enjoyable to watch.

I still have no idea if we will be good in a month but the team had some juice tonight and it is going to be so much fun to watch everybody develop. I can see the vision with this roster and that is very exciting. Cannot wait for next week.

It’s obvious that Joe, Jesse and Judah are our 3 best players and will be the 3 top scorers, but don’t look now…our 4th best player is…..Sy.
I wonder if that has anything to do with sprinkling in some man to man. A three guard lineup of Sy Judah and Joe is really enticing.

I’d love to see it some. Last week I said I’d like it for 15 minutes a game against teams that play 3 guards or aren’t big teams. Sy is also a good rebounder for a guard so he could play on the back line when in zone vs those smaller teams. Hell, Nova faired pretty good playing a lot of 3 guard lineups.

Weakest schedule in a long time this year is gonna help us.

JB had a long chat with Benny on the bench late. He needs to rebound and defend better. Right now he just has to play the game. Brown out played him tonight. Still hope he stays as a starter even if it's token.
wish the football team could schedule like this.

Brown will look good against weak competition. Smart. Heady. But seems to lack the explosiveness to compete against the better ACC front courts.

I'm definitely pleased with the game tonight... it just feels fresh & different. To see an almost new youthful roster, athleticism & runouts, half court alley-oops, man to man, dribble penetration, new looking offensive sets & flow, post passes, etc.

It was something new, it's exciting & I love that about the team. I agree there will be times when the team struggles, but tonight's game was just... fun!

Orange hoops is back for another season & I'm here for it.

Without Benny we’ll need Sy to be a factor.

Disagree. Brown will be fine against bigger and better competition as his role is simple as is his game. Plus he can defend multiple positions.
