Postgame Thoughts... Lehigh

Show Benny vintage Dennis Rodman highlights. Defense, rebounding, hustle will earn him time at PF.
Agree. There is a role for Benny on this team, it's just not scoring. He needs to spend almost all his time in the paint. When he is on the perimeter, something negative often happens (flat jumper, traveling call, etc.)

He actually had a couple nice entry passes to Jesse last night.

At this point I think "Kristof Ongenaet" is basically the ceiling for Benny.

When? He clearly only can blame himself at this point and JB is letting him play through mistakes
he likely sees how good the freshman forwards are...probably realizes he needs to claim his spot...

I can see why the doubts are there...from him and from fans...

but at least it seems between all of the forwards...the season is not riding on benny blowing up...

i still have faith he will get it together...

I hate to say it, but this roster has all the ingredients to be a dominant zone team and it's not going to realize that potential because the weak link in that chain is going to play the most minutes since he's our most experienced player and only proven shooter.
Can't believe I was thinking this last night, but I wanted to see more zone. They can be extremely disruptive and tear through March with a dominate zone if they make it that far. I love the idea of switching defenses among Man, 2-3, 1-1-3 etc. JB kept a completely overmatched unathletic team in a game against Duke last year by mixing up the defenses. I think he wants to recreate that, except with a much more capable team. Play the defense that is best suited to stop your opponent at the time.

Maliq looked great.
The backcourt looked promising.
The m2m defense looked promising.
Jesse's output and no foul trouble looked promising.
Hima as a solid backup C looked promising.

Benny?
Shooters?

and how is #42 on Lehigh a d1 basketball player?
42 on Lehigh is JT Tan. But he isn't tan. Not at all.

I think if Curtis Armstrong (Booger from Revenge of the Nerds) had a son with an Amazon, the kid would look like JT Tan.

42 was actually pretty nifty around the rim on offense all things said. On defense he was not so nifty lol.

A few thoughts:
-Was excited to see what Judah brought. Kid has swag and confidence to burn and shook off the missed layup. Unlike in the exhibition games he didn't force shots and looked to get his teammates the ball. Great handle and the left off the glass was nice. Not an instinctive passer yet as he has been a scorer and a 2 his whole life.
-Jesse woke up after 2 indifferent exhibition games.
-JG3 took some bad shots but it is clear he is better at the 2 when he is not asked to run the point, which is something he cannot do at a high level. When he takes good, open shots he is a weapon at the 2.
-Symir was a revelation. When he played with Mintz the defense from the guards was so far above anything we have seen in a couple of years. Symir played with confidence and leadership and was all over the place.
-I loved what I saw out of Hima. Jumped with a purpose and can make a layup, which serious Cuse fans will never take for granted from our bigs. So much better than expected.
-Bell does have a nice stroke and I liked how he went to the hoop on that fast break. Sadly the scouting reports we had on his all around play were accurate, and JB rightfully yanked him for watching a loose ball with an indifference that would have made Buddy blush.
-I'm not panicking like most are on Benny. He was not good last night but he was solid in the exhibition games. He was tight after missing the bunny when he got fouled and missed the two free throws. He needs to go to the basket and forget about fallaways.
-I like Taylor but I'd rather he went to the hoop as opposed to settling for off balance jumpers. He also struggled in the zone. But he is tough and will board and battle for loose balls.
-JB was falling in love with Brown before our eyes. He will see time although I worry his lack of athleticism may limit him at times. But he will be a valuable ACC player for us.
-Last, it was amazing how much more athletic and quicker we looked. The ceiling is higher than last year's team because we will score some easy baskets and will be better defensively.

It’s obvious that Joe, Jesse and Judah are our 3 best players and will be the 3 top scorers, but don’t look now…our 4th best player is…..Sy.
I like Sy out there too because he makes his teammates better when he’s out there and is a steadying presence. I also want to give credit to JG3, I think he has really helped make Jesse better starting with his pick n roll work with him last year. Nice having players with some passing and play making abilities out there. Judah seems to have a great attitude about expanding his passing and play making abilities over the season too.
