Potential 2025-26 Roster

What does people have against Womack?

He was in the running for Mr Wisconsin Basketball.

He can shoot and score.

Give him a chance before you write him off.
If we are going to point to the other schools recruiting George as a positive, we can’t ignore the other schools that were on Womacks list.

Am I writing him off down the line? Nope.
Next year? Probably

This year, three of SU’s four transfers have two or more years of eligibility left. Kyle is the only one who will be in his final year of college ball next season.

Kingz and George have two years left, while Souare has three.

Being able to keep Kings and George (2 years left) and Souare (three) would be great for consistency. Keeping them will depend on how well the team does and $$$ as there is understandably no loyalty to a team anymore. But, I’m highly optimistic as we were able to keep JJ and Donovan after the disastrous season we just had.

It depends on coaching. The loyalty thing cuts both ways. Players leave teams where they don't see a role for themselves or they are not in the team's plans. The top 30 teams aren't necessarily losing their starters or guys penciled in for bigger minutes. They're losing projects and bench pieces and replacing them with potentially better players. Getting guys with 2 or more years of eligibility and molding them into a team has been the most effective approach it seems.

The staff needs to work to retain the best. Donnie Freeman was a big win. Keeping JJ's experience may be too (we'll see what his role looks like), but Freeman was huge.

Years of eligibility remaining largely doesn’t matter when players have the ability to transfer at the end of each season. The only way that changes is if the NIL system evolves to multi year contracts.

This was a good listen. Brent had beat writers on who covered George, Souare, Kingz and Kyle this past season.

Quick takes:

George is a great passer, good scorer, mediocre at best defender.
Kingz is a tremendous shooter, average defender, could be a 15-18 ppg guy.
Kyle is a 20-ish minute/game guy, great defender and rim protector. Lob and dunk offense.
Souare is a strong role player with defense and boards.

To be honest, it left me a little less enthused about this crew than I was before I listened. Concerned about the defense of George. Wondering who's going to play the 5 for the 15-20 minutes a game Kyle isn't in.

Going to be up to Red to put the pieces together. George isn't a great defender, but he would have very clearly been our best backcourt defender this year.

I think it is fair to expect Womack to not be a factor this season. His physique, the relative low level of competition he faced in HS and the sheer number of wings we have on the roster make him a likely candidate for a red shirt.

Hopefully he spends the year working in his body and his game. I think he has a really high hoops iq and is a fine athlete. But it will take him some time to be ready for ACC level college basketball.

I can see what Red is trying to do for next season better than last. Mobile/agile bigs who can guard on the perimeter. Significant upgrade at PG. Hopefully they land Deng because one more wing shooter is a must. Maybe a Euro center who won't be bothered by low mins this year.

The comments on Kingz were pretty crazy to me. He shot over 50% from 3 for most of the season then "cooled off" to 44% later in the season haha. Exactly what we need.

Nate and Souare also appear to be buddies and a package deal. Another thing I like.

Currently ranked 25th by Evan Miya. Michigan is #1 without Aday Mara who committed today.

For sure. In terms of D, it looks like we're going to be lacking at the 1, 2 and 3. Hopefully the bigs can make up for that.

Overall, at the moment I think we're a bit short. I like the guys we've brought in. They're clearly an upgrade. However, we're really relying on Kiyan, Fennel and White to be meaningful contributors as frosh. Maybe they will be, but it's a risk to rely on it. And we may be a player short at the 5. I can only assume that Kyle and Sourame are going to split those minutes. Potential, but very little certainty.

Right now I'd say we're many wins better than last season, but not quite a tourney team. But there's tons of time for that to change.

I think it's impossible to imagine what it could even look like and rightfully so because we haven't really seen what one should look like in the Autry era.

5 guys playing defense together at once was rarely seen and def not with all P5 caliber guys at once.
