Potential 2025-26 Roster

This roster won’t be figured out until they figure out what is happening with JJ. We will see what happens. Hes the first conversation. I don’t think this team improves if he’s on the team. They need to take his money and other money and go land a stud at PG. anytime cuse has been good it has always been with a great pg. go back to what works

How realistic is it that Red will chase off his Kyle McCord?

Here is what we do.
Offer NIL to the entire starting 5 of this year's Division 2 national championship team. Offer their head coach or assistant head coach a huge raise to become an assistant. Blend them with the incoming Frosh. Pay Donnie to stay and I bet we make the dance.
Each year do the same thing. Bring on a whole starting 5.
Interesting idea but not sure the Drake theory will work in the ACC although I have great respect for the Drake coach and think he will make his next school very happy, whoever that is

Better odds than what everyone here probably thinks. I can say that for sure
Yeah. I would not doubt that. I didn’t get a warm fuzzy feeling watching them interact during the game yesterday.

Red was clearly frustrated with JJ in the second half and pulled him. Red was exasperated.,

This is where Kline helps too right. It’s math and #’s and the NIL market.

It’s also not as if Autry didn’t recruit JJ all through high school then watch him go with Brey at ND. It’s not personal. Correction maybe that was still the old man. Either way it’s not like he’s some young clueless local kid. He knows the deal.

With 15 roster spots, why would Red chase anyone off the team? If everyone comes back (they won’t), we still have four roster spots open.

Maybe it’s a budget thing? But I think it is easier to get existing players to stick around for a little less than market value than find replacements. It is unrealistic to think we can sign 6 or seven transfers that are all better than JJ and Chris.

If those guys end up as bench players, so be it. That is up to Red to figure out in November. Consider all positions to be open. No promise to anyone regarding starting or minutes.

LOL. He needs three top flight guys at PG, 5 and SG. That’s not a $25 million price tag.

I'll think we'll need to spend close to $10M. We need 5 guys.

But all those coaches require their players to play defense no matter how small their role might be.

He was an average defender on this team. Four players better, five players worse.

I guarantee you we can find role guys that can defend better in the portal at least.

It’s crazy to me people still use the phrase that the coach is chasing them off. Players are the ones putting their names in the portal.

And even If by chase off you mean Autry says you are going to have to fight to play 10-15 mins a game off the bench then I would actually say maybe Autry is understanding what it takes for next year.

These are not guys this year that just barely whiffed the tourney. They weren’t close.

What is the one thing that Starling does that a top tier team will overpay for?

He’s a poor outside shooter. He’s a terrible defender. He doesn’t rebound in an above average way.

He’s a driving scorer. Do we really think someone will open the vault for that?

I agree. But that doesn't mean someone won't beat our bag.
Somebody said he made less than Louisville's 3rd string center.
Reports say he got paid $300K this year. If somebody wants to overpay, this is not the guy you get into a bidding war to keep.

Only Freeman is worth that bidding war.

That requires forcing turnovers again.

We did have the best defensive rebounding this year that we've had in 10 years.
But we still didn't run, and we played pressure defense for portions of about 3 or 4 games out of 30.

I will surprised if he stays, and I am waiting for the thumbs down responses, but if I had to choose, I would take Bell over JJ

I get what you're saying. Bell has already "accepted" a reduced role and done well. I don't know if JJ would do that next year. It's his audition year, if he still has ideas in his head. If JJ was our 3rd or 4th best player, and could accept playing 20-25 min a game, that would be great. If his expectations are higher than that, he should probably go to Seton Hall, Providence or Butler.

I don’t think the guys I want to come back and the guys that are coming back are going to match up.

If the only guy that returns is Freeman, I’d be good with that. Though I see roles for Cuffe and JJ. But I don’t think JJ would accept a significantly reduced roll.

I don’t think Moore and Bell want to come back, so I’m assuming they are gone. Maestro is probably going to come back but. Ugh. He not as good as Jimmy Jr, who wasn’t ACC caliber. Petar just isn’t athletic enough for my taste.

We need an entire roster almost. Fennell really is the lynchpin of how the staff should attack the portal.

Kiyan shouldn’t be a starter at the 2.

I’d like to see a roster something like this, but probably needs a portal shooter and I’m not sure Fennell starts.

PG: Portal/Fennell
2G: Fennell/Kiyan/Cuffe
SF: Portal/White/Womack
PF: Freeman/White/portal
C: Portal/Portal/Freeman

But my point it we need at least 6 portal players and I think at least three of them need to be veterans who can start. And maestro is probably in the mix there, but he’s an emergency break glass guy for me unless he really improved.

JJ is probably in there too, as I think he wants to come back. Will be a tough manage for the staff.

You haven't thought Petar was good enough since the start of the season. He's a useful player, and had a pretty good freshman year. His advance stats are very favorable. In 13 minutes he gave us 3 pts, 3 rebounds, almost an assist a game and hit some threes. That's pretty good for a 3rd big man in his first year.

Well, it seems like Red got the "Come to Jesus" talk himself. This stuff has to change now.

You can't have 15 guys and have a happy team. And you certainly can't pay for that many. I think 11 varsity players is the right amount. Two good guys for each position, so you have competition, and a third center for foul trouble or in case of injury. 11 guys, that's what you need.

LaLa’s good for it. And Melo will need to give half time motivational speech every game too. I don’t see any issue.

I think Melo should be a frequent visitor to practices this fall. If we are so lucky as to keep Freeman, I would absolutely LOVE to see Melo at pre-season practices, teaching White and Freeman his tricks. That's the kind of coaching that would turn these kids' heads. Doesn't have to be an official position, just a presence at practice, to work out on the side. Damn, I'd like to see Billy Owens here, Roosevelt Bouie, to teach these kids the dark arts of the position.

Why can’t they keep him and get a stud PG?

He has to take a step back in terms of his role on the team. He's a former Mickey Dee's, he averaged 17 ppg and he wants to play professionally. He's not good enough to play at the level he aspires to. Can he accept that? Do you want to be the best player on a bad team, or a complimentary player on a good team?

He was the complimentary piece to Judah? I dont see a reason why we cant retain him.

Because he wasn't the complimentary piece this past year. He was the main course.
He has to go back to being a side dish, and a lot of people can't take that in their last year.

Portal talent is going to be significantly down. It wouold be a mistake to let him walk
