Practice Facility

Some of you have to be kidding me. This place would be a phenomenal building for us. Really hope this is the plan. And sure other facilities are important but this place gives the impression we are much more progressive and forward thinking as far as facilities go. Hope this is somewhat of an indication of the type of renovations we will get in the Manley locker rooms and a players lounge.

I agree 100% that this building would be great for the program. And in no way am I complaining like some of you may have insinuated. I was just saying that it would be more ideal to have everything in one spot or at least connected. The building would be used primarily for the winter months or crappy weather (which happens quite a bit unfortunately). What makes the Melo center so great is the players go there for everything they need. They can get treatment, workout, shoot some baskets, get extra school help, hang out in lounge, talk to coaches, etc. All in one spot. This building would be seperate from everything else pertaining to the football team with only a small locker room in it for basically just going the bathroom. (and a same size womens locker room) Meaning they get dressed and shower at Manley and walk back and forth around Coyne to get to facility. Maybe its not a big deal (and its probably not) just raising the point that while it is a great upgrade it does raise some questions. Questions like: can they connect it somehow to Manley, is there enough room in surrounding areas to add extra features, is this a plan that is based on how much $ available to them and that is why its not a player "haven", and in respect to other sports programs where would the track be relocated to?. I have no idea. Just asking questions. (not complaining)

Something in my gut is telling me this isn't it. I had a chance a few months ago to speak with an engineer on this project. So much of what I've been told is contradicted by those pictures.

My guess is these were simply design exercises or possibly one of the multiple design bids submitted for this project. I just don't think this is the finalized design.

The sketches on the link provided have "2011" as the project date.

Also, nothing has been submitted, as far as I can see, to the Onondaga County Panning Dept. for review. Four months later and their still reviewing the plans for the new Law School building.

Amazing isn't it? If the outside look of this facility makes one complain, it's very likely that nothing can, nor ever will, make one happy.

Ah, Syracusans...where people will even complain about rare consecutive sunny 90 degree days in the summer about when relief from the heat is in sight... :D

Love the renderings!

I'm under the impression the structure is supposed to be glass and/or translucent.

One of the pictures labels the materials to be used. The top and sides are made of polycarbonate, so it will be glass-like and transparent. I like the design. It's clearly supposed to mirror the design of the Melo Center.

I to like the design, I think it's pretty smooth and definitely mirrors the Melo Center.

I didn't read the actual article but just now looked at it again and it states "Translucent wall panels" - doh.

Wow some of you are hard to please. Just be happy that we will be getting a practice facility at some point. My goodness.

There is a giant picture of McNabb on the outside of it for crying out loud! I'd say that screams SU.

This^^^^^^^^

One less thing to complain about. Get her done.

You would think this has to be announced soon right? I mean why would this have released yesterday?

This is an SU board, we will always find things to complain about or feel depressed about. ;)

I know a lot of fanbases out there have their angst as well, but somedays I think we have honed angst to a science.

Cheers,
Neil

I was totally against the "air plane hanger" when I first saw it.
After looking at it a few times and then envisioning it next to the Melo center I had a change of heart.
I am now beginning to really like it.
Let's do this!

It's amazing. People will truly piss and moan about absolutely ANYTHING.

This thread is proof. We have news that we may get a new practice facility, which would be wonderful for the program. And yet, the very first reply in this thread is someone calling it a monstrosity with a sarcastic comment about a flat roof. My God, folks, some of you are in desperate need of Prozac.

I have heard that there is consideration to have the front facing entrance panels media panels. The would enable everything from streaming video to stills. Can you imagine recruits walking up to the facility as a highlight of SU Greats/Playes and alums such as ADavis, and all of our Broadcast buddies plays. I hope they do this.

Agreed.

In addition to the complaints regarding the lack of Orange presence in those pictures, I'm sure Gross & Co will have that facility screaming SU. Look at what he did with the inside of the Dome and the court alone.

I was just about to say something like this, but you said it much better than I would have. We need an indoor practice facility in the worst way and now it's not pretty enough for a few people. Good grief. (doesn't apply to everyone obviously. There are a lot of people that seem to get it.)

Anyone one whining about the practice facility as far as architectural cache should be shot.. It will look fine and will complement the Melo Center.. These things are almost all, bubbles or pre engineered metal buildings which is a glorified pole barn. This will be more than adequate and look nice.. actually. What

Leave the roofing questions to the people who know What they are doing... Good lord

i emailed the question of how is the fundraising going and plans for a new indoor practice facility to poloquin for gross to answer. i am sure many did the same but i wanted to be sure.

Not sure if this will be taken down but it looks like the PS mistakenly tweeted this link out:

Syracuse, NY -- I've been asking Syracuse University about a current renovation project to the football lockerroom and training facilities for several months now, to no avail.
But today, after returning from a weekend in New York City, it seems that the SU athletics department has something much bigger in mind.

I found a link to the web site of Bernheimer Architecture in Brooklyn, which contains a number of drawings and plans for a football practice facility - apparently a little further along in the planning stages than SU athletics director Daryl Gross has let on.
According to the web site entry, the facility would be located between Coyne Field and the
This project for Syracuse University consists of a football practice facility along with a larger strategic masterplan for the Lampe Athletic Campus situated about 3 miles south of the Main Campus. The site in its current state is an array of various athletic fields and parking lots situated between a residential neighborhood to the West and the Manley Field House to the East. Our design seeks to create an identity for this new "middle campus" by making an assemblage of disparate buildings into a strong collection. The spaces between the buildings are differentiated with separate vegetation zones and ground surface treatments that reinforce this sense of place and identity and establish the area as a social space for students and student-athletes. Vince Lombardi said that "Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect". For the football practice facility, we designed the building to create an environment that would enhance the practice session. Composed as a highly regulated and repetitive structure, all systems throughout the facility are deployed in the service of order and conceived to reinforce a sense of regularity and consistency. Column bays and light queen post trusses occur every ten yards, in alignment with the field landmarks. Translucent wall panels provide a well-lit neutral background and daylighting to minimize energy use. The base of the building is formed from precast concrete panels that are cast with patterned dimples of embedded footballs.

I think Nolan needs to explain how he found this link on Monday after cuseforlife posted it a few days ago?
