Press Conference on now

JB "(Fab) didn't let anyone down. I know there's that out there, but in my opinion, he didn't let anyone down."

This has NCAA written all over it. I doubt it was a SU decision.

Or, it could have SU written all over it.

Jim just loves to be curt to the media. I don't understand it, but I guess after years of abuse he is over it. Too bad he wasn't more personable, for his own sake. It probably would have made his life a little easier.

I love that Coach does that. The media guys need to be put in thier place. He is not afriad to do that cause Coach isnt scared of anybody.

WAER question ...how are you getting RAK tougher...JB with a smile on his face...I've been beating him up, knocking him around , pushing him and toughening him up.

It's clear that JB doesn't suffer fools lightly. I've dealt with people like that over the years and to some, those kinds of people come off as cold, arrogant and selfish. Thing is, many of them, once you get to know them, or if you actually ask them, will give you the shirts off their backs.

Clearly, JB has a sarcastic streak that tends to make him look even more arrogant - there are those who get it, and those who don't. I dare say that true New Yawkers get it more readily than most.

Leave it to you to use a thread about a press conference to take another cowardly shot at possibly the best person on this team.

This board could really do without people like you.
and you thought his remark that "we thought this could happen" was smart...unfortunately it was plain stupid...and Ottomets, What...this is a forum of opinion.
Based on Scoop's comment, did the team have knowledge that Fab continued to do something wrong; or perhaps should not have been cleared originally. Guess you missed that interpretation?

why is it stupid? if a guy gets back on the eligible side of the fence by the skin of his teeth, and is on some form of academic probation, then of course you think it could happen again, and you prepare for it going forward. JB said as much when he admitted that he has been prepping Rak to play center for the last 7 or 8 weeks

Is anyone concerned about wins being vacated?
Didn't love the response when Dana O'neil asked the retroactive question
JB was just being honest in saying that it has to play out but it certainly wasn't reassuring. I would hate for him to have to pass Dean Smith a second time and pass Calhoun again.

Many are quick to comment that JB didn't (and should have) seen it all coming, and is somehow culpable in the team's problems, but without the facts (which we will likely never get) we cannot say.

Sure we can speculate and if I must I'd bet, at least in the Fab case, that JB knew what was happening from (almost) the start and did what he could within the NCAA rules - pushing as hard as he could for the best possible outcome. He, Fab, Cantor, the professors, NCAA, et al, probably talked about it for weeks and when there was no way out, he was pulled. (In case you can't tell, I am speculating that this ineligibility is very much related to the previous one)

It's not like the NCAA showed up at Boeheim's door with a gun and a warrant and took Fab away, leaving JB with a dazed look on his face. He had plenty of warning this was coming.

yep it makes them want to come after him more.

Somebody from SU showed up at JB's door and took Fab away.

Since Fab met all the requirements to be reinstated back in January, JB probably had NO warning that SU was going to reverse their decision.

JB "Diference than in 10' with Arinze was that we didn't have as much depth. We were playing 7 players that year. When AO went out, Ricky had to slide to the center position. Kris (6th man of the year) had to start. Arinze was a big part of that team. This is very similar, but we have a little more depth this year.

Sounds a lot like what someone on this board was saying yesterday...

When JB made that subtle change of bringing in Rak to back up Melo, we all assumed it was because BMK had been playing like warmed-over dirt. Also, CJ started at PF for a few games, maybe to facilitate the substitution pattern to fit in Rak.
I'm more convinced than ever they thought something might go down.

two things argue against this - Scoop said today that the team thought that this could happen all along, and JB revealed that he has been prepping for it by practicing Rak mostly at center ever since the ND game. So, it seems like they were hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. He might have been surprised at the timing, but he seems to have had some inkling that this could be in the cards

Has SU ever reversed a decision like this in the past?

Could his reinstatement have been tied into his midterm grades?
