Programs with at least $10M for this season…

I believe the $10m number includes the $3m-$4m from the $20.5m school allocation. I’ve heard our strict NIL is between $6m-$7m.
Aha, I just assumed these Norlander numbers included the schools’ direct allocations from the settlement (which hasn’t been settled yet) but Norlander doesn’t say.

Donate more then. That’s where it come from…us.

We’re right behind that 2nd group. We’re doing fine but can always use more. But we’ll never keep up with certain schools.
How about not and do something else. This is so stupid people. College sports is horrible. No boundaries no contracts. Never in a million years would I give money to something so stupid

If we are wagering guesses.

George 2 million
Freeman 1.5
JJ 1.2
Kingz 800k
Kyle 800k

I think SU should think about adding a small surcharge for every ticket sold to go towards NIL.
Tickets are already insanely expensive, and they've priced me out from going. You can only squeeze from the fans so much.

Shocking that BYU (which was in the WCC a year and a half ago), tiny St John’s and Texas Tech are in the top tier. I mean, w t .
I'm very curious on how quick a turnaround Miami will have. Will it be Louisville fast? I would wager no, but money does talk.

I agree 100%, but if the team starts winning again, people will be lining up again to purchase them.

Season tickets remain a terrific deal. And if you are willing to part with a good game or two you can easily recoup the cost. I believe they still start at $250 or in that range for 18-20 games.
And you can generally score seats on the secondary market for very reasonable prices, especially if you wait.
Now if you want to sit courtside…..

Which is funny because they have the same results as NC State down the road for peanuts and a crappy coach. Ya just hate to see poor Duke implode in the tourney like that with the best players and staff money can buy.

I always find an assessment like this which looks back at a very short period of time like it’s relevant to the discussion really weird. Because we both know if you were told that Duke or NC State won the championship in 2026, who you’d guess won. And it isn’t NC State.

The most important part is it -possibly inadvertently - downplays exactly how mission critical it is that Syracuse continue to catch up on NIL. I’d feel a lot better about our future (after Red of course…) if we were on that list as opposed to (supposedly) the next tier below.

Well, you can have cheap tickets and a lousy team.

It likely does. I was told our financial situation was comparable to UVA. We definitely are not poor or we wouldn’t have beat out UNC for George AND kept Donnie.

Miami is an interesting case. They have 2 of their best seasons in 22 and 23 so they were presumably paying well those seasons. But then most of their guys bolt in 24 and 25, almost like the nil well ran dry. But now looks like they’re ramping up again!? WTH

Does basketball really need more than 7 or 8 million to field a good team? There’s only so many players you have to. Pay

Lucas has a ton of connections as well

Keep in mind that programs that opt in to the House settlement at schools that do not field FBS football teams can devote a much higher percentage of their $20.5MM cap to hoops. That accounts for St. John’s and Nova on this list. I have been told that even though UConn does field an FBS team, they will devote more to basketball and will actually be in the $10MM+ club. Mora can’t be happy about that!

I agree with part of your statement. I'm certainly not donating my money to pay "college" athletes. Love SU, been a huge football & basketball fan since the late 80's as a little kid & had seasons for years (still have football but can't do basketball with 4 kids of my own and busy schedules), but unless I fall into a large sum of money, using any of my limited disposable income to pay guys who may stick around for a couple years seems silly. My salary could literally double and I wouldn't even consider it.

All that said, for all of those that do donate, I appreciate you and I'm glad it can help keep us competitive. The fact this is falling on the fans is preposterous. We as fans should only have to worry about tickets, parking etc., not paying guys to come here. The whole thing is beyond broken and was so obvious when all of this was being talked about, before it actually started occurring.

This is the problem why I don't see Cuse ever getting back to where we were. For every comment like this there are 10 fans at an SEC/BIG or Duke/UNC & not to forget ND football that are willing to give money they don't have to win along with the mega rich donors.

I'm not saying you're wrong about the broken system or the craziness. There is just a different mentality in these college towns and schools. Their town's entire identity, culture and success is built around football.

In the last Etan & Devo show, they said Tenn has added a NIL tax to all concessions and merchandise sold at games/events to help fund their coffures.
Beat me to a similar comment. We're not far off from Alabama or some Southern SEC state school just putting an NIL tax into their states tax or budget and trickling it back to the schools. Who knows if it's already happening somewhat.

Then you have other states telling athletes we won't tax your NIL compensation. New York state tax on a million $'s is 9.65%. That's 96K off the top for an athlete.

Didn't our AD just say we need more NIL from more than jus 'us' ? (the individual fans)

i.e. Corporate NIL sponsorships?
With limited-to-no restrictions on NIL funding & sources, the big business involved, it's naive to think it really comes from the fans, hence Wildhack's comment. It's important as an additional revenue source, yes, and as others have mentioned universities have gotten creative by adding in-stadium taxes, etc.

But to think you're going to compete with Texas oil, global manufacturing companies, the list goes on, by small margin fan contributions is misguided and I'm glad the athletic department now recognizes this.

Simply: Big time programs require big time contributions from big time companies. Not "the fans."

I’ll ask again— what stops some billionaire from decided he wants to donate $50million to his favorite mascot’s home team NIL fund?

Nothing but his financial advisor and the other people in the know will tell him he can buy any team he wants for half that right now until the price goes up again.
