Programs with at least $10M for this season…

Didn't our AD just say we need more NIL from more than jus 'us' ? (the invidual fans)

i.e. Coporate NIL sponsorships?

I include them as “us”. Donors.

Keep in mind that programs that opt in to the House settlement at schools that do not field FBS football teams can devote a much higher percentage of their $20.5MM cap to hoops. That accounts for St. John’s and Nova on this list. I have been told that even though UConn does field an FBS team, they will devote more to basketball and will actually be in the $10MM+ club. Mora can’t be happy about that!
This is why UConn ain't ever going to another conference despite people beating that horse to death.

This is the problem why I don't see Cuse ever getting back to where we were. For every comment like this there are 10 fans at an SEC/BIG or Duke/UNC & not to forget ND football that are willing to give money they don't have to win along with the mega rich donors.

I'm not saying you're wrong about the broken system or the craziness. There is just a different mentality in these college towns and schools. Their town's entire identity, culture and success is built around football.
It's also partly a "chicken and egg" issue with SU right now. With successful programs comes fan enthusiasm. We were once one of the dominant programs out there. No longer. If we somehow were able to get back to that level, who knows what $$ might be generated. Some might say we need to "buy" our way back into the mix, but I don't think it's that simple. There's a lot of moving pieces to generating a successful college program in today's world.

I don't disagree with you at all. I'm a diehard and have been for close to 35 years now. But my family, my retirement (seemingly 80 years from now at this rate) and my day to day expenses far exceeds the importance of SU sports and how competitive they are. I know the south is a different breed when it comes to football and the Dukes & UNC's of the world love their hoops.

If I were single and/or didn't have any kids, I'm confident I'd feel differently and donate a little. Again, it wouldn't be anything crazy, maybe 3K a year or something. If enough people felt that way, the money would certainly add up quickly when coupled with the "big fish".

Those that do donate do a tremendous job and help give SU a chance. I'm glad we have some of those people. It's a difficult battle for a somewhat smaller private school.

Remember when this was supposed to be about players making a little money off their name image and likeness.
Get 10k for doing a commercial. Selling your autograph for a few bucks. Etc Etc.

Now it’s turned into a million dollar NIL industry itself in barely any time.

Where does it go from here? It’s scary to think about. Next it will be 10 mil for a good starter. Then 15 for a starter and 5 for a bench player.

True, but it’s actually their STATES entire identity. Competing with that reality is tough for all privates except ND.

Even brands like USC and Miami Dont have “statewide support” like PSU, Tennessee, LSU, etc.

Capitalism baby, that's how free markets work!

The issue is more that this wasn't a gradual process in line with television deals throughout the years. We tried to hide under the guise of amateurism and screw the players out of the money they deserved because they were getting a "free education".

And let's not pretend that they weren't making that money under the table before anyways.

How about the university itself invests the adequate money, not the fans. We need a spot in the Big 10 to survive long-term. University needs to pump everything it can into both major programs in a desperate play to attract Big 10 interest. Once you're in that club, you're golden

They are. The most they can provide is $20.5 million In revenue sharing . That’s the most they can give. Everything else must come from collectives.

Um, until next season schools couldn’t pay players. Now they can up to 20.5 for all athletes. Still need NIL from the fans.

Is your point that we all choose to do something else with our money? Because I’m ok with that.
My point is the top teams find money and we no longer are a top team.

If we stink this year NIL will not be the reason. Do you think we got George over UNC for nothing? Or kept Freeman for nothing?

We’ve been in the dumpster for so long. We need to be better than most teams with NIL and get us back where we belong. JW even said the NIL isn’t where it needs to be.

The entire arguement for players getting paid was that the universities and the NCAA were making tons of profit off marketing these players. The way the NIL system works now the universities and the NCAA are still making a ton of money off marketing the players and now the players are making money off of the fans as well. Instead of taking the profits from the universities and the NCAA they are keeping that for themselves and telling the fans to pay more. The revenue sharing thing is just a drop in the bucket to what they actual make. The entire system is a joke. I think everyone was in favor of the players getting paid but it shouldnt be coming directly out of the fans pockets. Now the fans continue to pay the universities their money, the NCAA their money and now the players their money. It will crash soon...

A certain billionaire who loves the school that the pencil pushers kicked out because they feel he's below them would help!

That’s why you won’t find me complaining on this board very much. I’m not part of the solution.

I think I only still pop in out of habit.

We are not poor this year. That is the point.
And not where we need to be. I’m thrilled to have Freeman and JJ back, and happy with George. But hearign we had money, I don’t think one person in here wished Nait George was our big fish this offseason.

Oh yeah? He was our hand picked pg after we kicked the tires on Dedan Thomas. We beat out UNC and Oklahoma for him. An SEC school and a school on the list you referenced. UNC still does not have a pg by the way.

He’s fine. Is he a superstar? No. Is he obviously better than what we’ve had? Yes. You can’t tell me Nait George was on your wish list this offseason.

We aren’t in the same position as UNC and haven’t been. Even with them being a fringe tourney team, they’ve been light years ahead of us. We need to do a ton with our NIL. Especially with a coach that well, can’t coach.

George is a big fish but I would think we should be able to afford one more imo…even including Donnie as another big fish. I do like our additions. I just want to see one or two more.
