Programs with at least $10M for this season…

George is a big fish but I would think we should be able to afford one more imo…even including Donnie as another big fish. I do like our additions. I just want to see one or two more.
If we got another, then it feels like a great offseason. I don’t think any1 feels as if we will

I understand that we can’t give Deng $1 million or more, hypothetically, if we’re only giving JJ and Kingz like $1 million or less, hypothetically. But it just doesn’t seem like our roster “salaries” add up. It seems like we should still have a good amount of money leftover.

Posit that we have $10 million total for the roster between NIL and direct spending from the university (from the House settlement). That seems like what many knowledgeable people on here have been saying. These are some of the player costs I’ve seen thrown around here and online. Do people think they’re accurate?
Nait George = $2 million
Donnie = $1.5 million
JJ, Kingz and Kyle = $750K each? = $2.25 million
Souraye = $250K
Four Freshman = $1.5 million total? (Probably too high)
That’s like $7.5 million.

So shouldn’t we have like $2-2.5 million left? That’s a lot of dough. Shouldn’t we be able to pay for Deng or another stretch 4 and another center?

Am I the only one here that thinks this is nuts ?
I don’t begrudge a kid from profiting from a god given talent enhanced by a dedicated work ethic.
That said there is a point where it’s our millionaires against your millionaires. I generally moved away from professional sports for exactly that reason.
Nothing wrong with being a millionaire it’s just something about the new “hired gun” mentality that detracts (for me) from that old school spirit.
Yes, I realize money has always played a part in College Sports, but again it has greatly reduced my personal interest in the emotional attachment to the college game.

I do appreciate the NIL funding/effort being made with the goal of making SU a competitive program again.
That said, and in the same vein as where you're coming from:
The new focus/fervor regarding assembling teams of Mercenary Millionaires each season makes me sad.
If SU ever strikes gold by assembling a team of mercenaries that wins it all, it will be a wonderful thing and I'll be happy.
But don't know if it's possible any more to match the magic of 2003. It will never be the same.
You're definitely not alone regarding how NIL has created less emotional attachment.

You liked it better when it was fake amateurism?

I think that 9.5 million number may have been exaggerated. And we are pretty much out of real money.

Ha. You hit Kingz. $750,000.
