Proposal for PSU sanctions

Also, the NCAA has to do something big here with Penn St. They hit USC and Ohio St pretty hard recently. They are about to destroy Miami in the coming year or so with sanctions and such. If they let Penn St off light or with a slap on the write the NCAA loses any and all credibility.

Everything Miami did for many years was bad and that YAHOO report last year just exposed a corrupt program from top to bottom, and they can't give Miami a harsher punishment than Penn St in the coming months. The NCAA would look like total fools. Reggie Bush got paid, ok, USC was punished. Penn St's punishment should be 50X more harsh than USC's.

5 year Death Penalty ... They need to forget about football in State College for that long just to put things in proper perspective. The twisted thinking mindset there is WAY over the top.

maybe for 7 or 8 homegames they would have had, maybe they can run conventions on child abuse that will be run by national groups to help out the hotels and retaurants.

no remorse= death penalty

The one thing that I keep thinking about is the fact that no matter what the NCAA does to the program, the culture will still be there. The big time PSU alumni and boosters will still be there to nurse the thing along and re-instill that culture. The program isn't the problem. It's the culture. Yes the program needs to take a hit, for sure, but they have to castrate the culture of the past 60 years. To do that, you have to cut the support network. There should be a complete housecleaning of the BOT. The NCAA should place restrictions on the alumni donations to the program and assign an oversight committee to make sure that high powered alumni and boosters that were donating since 1998 are not allowed to be involved in the program for the next five or ten years.

As far as the program goes, they don't need to give it the Death Penalty to be effective. Reduce scholarships by 25% for 5 years, ban them from bowls for 5 years, allow players that are currently there to transfer and play right away, with no restrictions. Also, ban PSU from participating in the B1G championship game for 3 years. Allow them to keep the revenue stream from the B1G, but make sure that it gets applied disproportionately to the other athletic programs and academics. No money from the B1G championship should go to PSU football.

They have to target the culture, and to do that they have to target the old leadership and the big time old school donors. Period.

Also, there should be an investigation into the PSU alumni, politicians and other people of power that contributed and were involved in 2nd Mile. Something tells me there are plenty of stones left to be turned over.

You nailed it, IMO - in spirit. The purpose of severe sanctions is to gut the culture that gave rise to the Institutional evil. The criminals will be addressed individually, but the rotten soil that fed them has to be turned and sterilized.

The purpose of sanctions should be to make PSU football bad enough, for long enough, that the entire fan base and support system for the program stops caring too much about football, and gets a freaking clue. Conceptually speaking, I would be happy shutting down the program entirely for 50 years if that is what it took.

The NCAA, and possibly the Big 10, have to address the aspects of the situation that the criminal and civil justice systems aren't authorized or equipped to do.
