Even though WF and Maryland aren't the best of the world, I'm proud of the team and staff for stepping up to the challenge after the GT woodshed beating. They could've easily lost those 2 games and be 3-6 (1-4), but they peeled off two gritty wins instead to sit at 5-4 (3-2) and keep their bowl hopes alive. Give me back that damn Penn St game.

And another thing, please please please do not start saying that the sky is falling after the FSU game. This is a case of David vs Goliath, and 99% of the time we will get smoked in this exact matchup. Let's just hope we don't completely embarrass ourselves and come out relatively injury-free.

We still have a legit shot at 7-5 (5-3), which is pretty damn good in our 1st ACC season especially after all of the studs we lost last year.

Keep the faith.

If a 40+ loss is an embarrassment, then be prepared to be embarrassed. FSU is looking like an all time team for them, which is saying something. I easily see a shut out. I hope it's not an epic 60 pointer.

All that being said, the season is going to way it should. Agree about PSU, but I think the difference in that game is that it was the first game for a new staff and they didn't have a firm handle on what they could and couldn't do yet.

Team has gotten better (in part because the opposition has gotten worse) but they have won the games they should have won, some by bigger margins than I thought in the beginning of the year, and lost they games they were always going to lose, again by bigger margins than I thought at the beginning of the year.

Survive this week, play a bunch of guys, hope Drew and Charlie get some PT by choice, and move on to closing the year on a three game winning streak.

agree all around.

i'm grateful that the offense and defense are coordinating their shiiteing of the bed in conference. defense against GT was a disaster but what difference does it make when you get blanked. clemson we had coverage breakdowns but again didn't matter. in games where the offense gave them any chance, the defense has been quite good

At this point NW and PSU have leveled off at a lower place. NC state had a great chance to beat duke , only 3 ACC teams that I think we dont beat more than half the time this year.. Perhaps UNC as well they way they are playing now.

No I'm thinking 63-0 would be an embarrassment, but is a real possibility.

Wish list:
  • Would be nice to see the defense stop them on a few drives
  • Hit Winston a few times
  • Not give up more than 2 humiliating wide open TD passes, would rather see them run it down our throats than Esk get lit up on playaction
  • The offense to put points on the board (even if it's 3), would be hilarious to see our D score though lmao

The way that they completely manhandled good teams in Clemson and Miami is frightening.

Completely agree about the PSU game, especially on offense. Now they know what their ceilings/limitations are. Feeding Jerome the ball 28 times is a good start. Mixing in a 4-5 screens to Estime and a couple post routes to Broyld also helps.

The only thing I care about with respect to the FSU game is how we react the following week. If it's as bad as it could be, we need to have a similar shake it off reaction as GT. Only difference is that we have to do it in 7 days instead of 14.

I think the key is going to be to make safe plays and try to control the clock. Jerome is a good enough workhorse RB that, regardless of the defense in front of him, he can still make plays and pick up yards. Minimizing turnovers is something WF didn't do, but they also had Price throw the ball into some bad areas. Make the simply play, try to reduce risk and go vanilla if need be. Better to run for 200yds and throw for 100 if it means a 35-7 L than to throw for 200yds, run for 100 with 4 INTs in a 63-14 L.

You are spot on with this post my friend

exactly. Lets not put ourselves in risky situations. Keep it simple, get in 3rd down in short situations and convert them at a reasonable percentage. Sort of what stanford did with oregon. We can still bring our pressures at times on defense but lets keep a cover 4 shell to prevent big plays. Make them run at least 8 to 10 plays on a scoring drive.

If it's a blowout at the half, I'd go with our backup running backs the entire second half. I'd even play Allen most of the second half. This is a meaningless game other getting on the national stage and seeing where the bar is.

There's a lot to that. This season really isn't about how we do against Florida State. It's a lot more about how we do against Pitt and BC.

run trick plays every play. when it fails miserably, you just tell the players "we shouldn't have done fleafumblerooskieflickers so many times, that's on us, sorry about that"

Agreed, basically. I don't really want the coaches putting any outsized importance on this game. Go with the usual, but low key, platitudes about playing our best, etc. But we're going to get annihilated and FSU is going to run up the score to add separation between them and tOSU.

Stay healthy, and have the kids high as a kite to play Pitt.

Offensive and defensive lines have to step up. If they do SU can make some good stuff happen. I worry about a quick out passes that FSU reads Hunts eyes because he'll be worried about being drilled. Blitz them and make them make plays. If they do, tip your hat and go after them again. Don't play patty cake or think too much...see the guy and drill his ass. Make them think twice about catching the ball.

Make them always remember the day they played they played the Orange(men)!

FSU has beat so many teams so badly it wont be that embarassing. if we lose 56 -0 this week ill just say beat Pitt

They're averaging 46 against ranked teams.

Thank god we're not ranked!

(they're only scoring 54 against unranked team)

FSU and aTm never go below 41 a game (can't say that for Baylor and Oregon). These offenses are nuts.

wow -enough with the negativity - its all fine man

su by 14-------34-20

dont want to get you guys too optimistic because it will be setting you up for a let down but FSU seem to have that one bad loss. Last year it was NC State. You never know thats all im saying. Sometimes teams feel pressured to win with style points and they end up doing to0 much. I hope they do that against us but most likely wont. My prediction FSU will win 34 to 10. Thats a respectable score. IMO

Anything can happen. Famous Jamies decides he would rather work on his badminton skills and quits the FSU program. FSU training table features new dish called Spiedies and team comes down with bad case of the trots on game day.

Could happen!

More to the point this has been a really weird season. We lose two games in embarrassing fashion, lose two games we might win if played now instead of at the start of season, win 2 laughers and win three hard nosed low scoring ACC defensive battles.

Our opponents have a combined 42-32 record and the teams that have beaten us are 24-12 while the teams we have beaten are 18-20. We are 3-2 so far in the ACC - not bad so far.

It is probably fair to say that the D for whatever reason has really improved a great deal and given us a real shot at a strong finish and perhaps a bowl. The offense seems to be coming along more slowly and has a chance in any game the D keeps close.

I suspect that Pitt, who always plays us tough, are better than generally thought. However they are 1-4 on the road and we play them at the dome. We look evenly matched.

Boston College is also doing poorly on the road at 1-3. Hard to figure out this BC team. They hang in there tough against Clemson (14-24) and the next week lose to North Carolina (10-34). If they D plays well this is a winnable game in the dome.

The Maryland win put us in good shape going in to the last quarter of the season but we need to get out of FSU not too banged up.

In a way it is good that we have FSU just before the home stretch. Hunt needs the experience and so does our secondary. If we can acquit ourselves reasonably it could setmus up for a great close.

How'w that for an Orangy scenario!

Pitt can't protect or run the ball - it's all quick stuff. I trust our D to eat Savage alive - because that's what Syracuse does to that QB.

BC is all run. Our D is built to stop the run.

The only way to negate speed is to play North and South we have to play between the tackles on O all game long. Anything to the outside plays to their strength. Run the rock over and over again Off tackle power football with a few deep shots thrown in. That is our only hope

I'm with you. Jerome better be hungry. I'd like to see more GMII during Jerome's breathers as well.

This will be a good NFL scouting matchup for a few of the linemen, especially Hickey. Let's hope they can hold their own.

punt block rush defense is what killed savage with rutgirls....they had no clue to what the defense was

Good point - this will also be an interesting game to see how McDonald does game planning.

If we see >0 bubble screens I will be livid.
