Even telling Paterno's wife she can no longer use gym facilities.

Despite what I think of the guy, its hard to watch how hard this guy is falling. This is an epic fall from grace.

the legal beagles probably want to keep the paternos off campus as this investigation continues.

makes good sense to me after the attemps to cover everything up.

besides if she is not a state employee of the university, then she is no different than some homeless guy who walks in off the street.

I know that most employee and retiree benefits at SUNY schools etc includes the use of their fitness facilities which makes her more than a homeless guy off the street. I think many private firms with fitness facilities also allow their retirees and spouses full access - I know ours does.

Banning her from using a pool she had previously used daily seems rather petty and vindictive in just my opinion.

apples to oranges here.

if a spouse was fired under the same conditions as paterno was, would a private still grant those privilages during an on going investigation.?

I think the pools are open to the public in State College, but not 100% certain on that. And I'd pretty much guarantee that major donors would get to use the pool if they chose to.

I'm not really sure the justification behind this - yes Paterno was fired...but he and his wife donated millions of dollars to the University. And she isn't embroiled in a scandal regarding what she chose not to report to the police.

I'm with Cherie, this is really petty by PSU. Vindictive, even. Honestly this makes me feel like it's still a University being run by a childish and incompetent group of beaurocrats that are in way over their heads, because they're trying to make up for their own past ineptitude by punishing an individual that wasn't in any way personally involved in their screw-ups. They had their opportunity to come down hard on a former employee that (allegedly) raped a little boy in a shower on campus property and whiffed at it; they can't make up for it by banned an 84 year old woman from using the pool.

There is a rumor she was stealing towels. She claimed that the PS embroidery stood for Paterno, Susan. Sad, really.
