QB coach Martin

Very disappointing thread. Looking for a problem to explain what? We are really going after the QB coach? First, TD doesn't play defense. And that was the problem on Saturday. We couldn't get off the field without allowing a score. Was TD great. Of course not. But he wasn't the problem. A o-line that couldn't hold the rush back. Wide outs that didn't get open. Let's get real here. The team wasn't prepared to play, That isn't on just the QB coach. He was at the bottom of the list of our problems and it is ridiculous to point him out as anything but.

No of course i dont. Still do top HS QBs feel that Martin can get them to the next level? I also found the NFL comments about how poor Erics mechanics were alarming. My two cents is that we could do better. Obviously its not going to happen. QB is so important im surprised Dino went there with him
Dungey's mecahnics were the same under Tim Lester and Sean Lewis. That has nothing to do with Martin.

Plus did you realize Martin's younger son is a QB. A Redshirt Freshman at North Texas. I think he may know a little about coaching QBs.

better passing game than Jackson under a ton more pressure and a D that knew everything after the first 10 min was going to be a pass.

Much better than game one and thats all you can ask. if he comes out of the clemson game with those same stats its a good thing going forward. It will help if we can call a game the way we want and not just chasing the game

He was 28/39 330 yards 3 TD 1 INT (better numbers then Jackson).
You trying having good pocket presence when #4 blows right past the LT all first half and you have about 1.5 seconds to find an open receiver.
I will give you sometimes when scrambling he doesn't have that naturally instinct to pass right away or run.
He had a fine game.
And both games the D is playing the pass
The fact we couldn’t run didn’t help
All the good teams average crazy yards
Maryland didnt respect the run at all so to pass vs deep cover 2 all game with no time was not easy .
T Jackson was a stud !
I’m afraid it’s gonna b ugly O on Saturday but I think the D with the crowd may be a factor.
We all thought the run game would be great
And what rb wouldn’t love to run without 8 in the box ? Not once did I see 8 in the box !
The holes haven’t been there yet . And couple some other mis communications it’s to much to overcome. Yes yes yes TD needs to improve And hopefully scrambling drills w WRs will improve that .he buys time looking for a wr so if they fix it great or he will have to run ( fingers crossed) Just don’t expect it this week hopefully we will find ways to overcome our deficiencies before NC state .
Not trying to make excuses just stating facts
It’s mystifying how posters will point out most of the reasons in one sentence than forget it the next lol . Let’s hope for the best Saturday I hope it’s packed I want to experience that .

What can be done to fix the running game?

Maybe some counters , better blocking , draws , more swing passes but that’s not my forte . If we can bring 8 in the box we can attack down field . I really didn’t have a problem with play calling ( maybe a run on 3rd and 6) I’m sure we will figure what will work best I’d also like to see our freshman burner on a jet seeep , swing pass , wheel route a home run threat . Idk if he is in the plans . The staff and all of us were being positive about some of our deficiencies but they came to be true and now it’s fix and adjust time .

Yeah they had 5 sometime 6 in box and we still couldn’t block em. Also hard when u get down to keep running. I think he looked good. I also think he is trying so hard not to run even when it’s wide open. I think if he ran a bit more it would open our pass a bit too.

Agree

Just can't believe anyone who watched Saturday's game is talking about QB play at all. Expect a few mistakes from a young, first time starter but expect those mistakes to dissipate and for performance to improve week over week. TD took a big step in that direction and started to display some rhythm with his wideouts. So let's credit the QB coach for that and wonder how we're going to fix a defense that allowed 63 to a middle of the pack B1G team.

I agree just think they will be way better than middle of pack. Could be a ten win team if they continue to play like that.

No idea if the guy is a problem or not. I can't say that I like the nepotism look. Even if it isn't justified, you're inviting criticism of it. But I think it also makes it hard to keep people accountable. Again, it may be completely unjustified but when the coach is your in-law, how do you make him answerable for his professional failures without thinking about the problems that might create at home? No matter how qualified the guy may be, it's not a winning move in my book.

Remember when we were all excited about Shafer putting the band back together? Again, not drawing a direct analogy, but it's probably not the worst thing if the guys you're working with aren't your best friends or family members.

Hope that’s the case. But I am back to needing evidence with my belief!

These threads make me think of this wonderful book.
