Class of 2026 QB Peyton Falzone (PA) Verbal to PSU

Fran has done a very poor job recruiting HS quarterbacks. We’re nowhere to be found on the top 50 quarterback list. ACC teams all over the list, but no SU.
He’s bad 2 full cycles lol it’s hard to get a top 50 qb . I expect next year that will improve though.

I’m fine bringing in portal guys. Highly ranked HS QBs have the patience of a 3 year old in many cases, they don’t start quickly, they leave. You gotta recruit some HS guys of course but development is tough when they don’t stay. And if you develop them into something good, their NIL value gets so high we would likely lose them

This dude is exactly the kind of high level guy that if we can snag, especially given the expected depth chart, would be huge to get since he might be viable for some snaps right away.

Oh I would love to get him but I worry more about what QB2 we get in the portal at this point, I don’t want us to rely on a true freshman

"Very poor"

He's recruited ONE high school quarterback with a full recruiting cycle that he didn't inherit [Jakhari Williams] on a short turnaround timeframe, who is redshirting, and has barely played. Too early to make a definitive take on his capabilities yet for that reason, so let's set Carney aside.

The portal transfer Fran Brown landed laset year led the nation in assists, completions, passes over 20 yards, passes over 30 yards, passes over 40 yards, passes over 50 yeards, and passes over 60 yards.

The replacement QB he landed to replace the previous guy was also leading the nation in passing yardage after 4 games, prior to a season ending injury.

Both of the aforementioned players were five-star prospects coming out of HS, that we never would have landed directly out of HS. The strategy that Fran is employing is to be the portal transfer destination of choice for high profile / blue chip QBs looking to put up video game numbers. And so far he's knocked it out of the park.

Who cares about HS QB recruiting?

Odd take.
That’s why we don’t have a competent backup. This is his third recruiting cycle, I understand his first was short, but he hasn’t brought in a capable quarterback that can actually run our offense. If anything had happened to McCord, we would have collapsed last year too.

No, he brought in another highly rated transfer. That guy turned out to not be very good. THAT'S why we don't have a competent backup.

If Collins was even RJ Anderson-esque level of competent, we'd be a bowl team after the start that Angeli got off to. But he isn't [despite having the 4-star pedigree coming out of HS], so we've struggled.

Just goes to show what a crapshoot recruiting QB prospects is. And that problem is exacerbated when it comes to projecting high school QB prospects.

It doesn't matter, hoopsupstate has chosen to die on the high school top 50 QB rankings hill.

And if we get said top 50 QB recruits via the transfer portal a year or two later, what's the difference?

And the ones Fran has landed [2 out of 3] have been rated much higher than that.

Chances are, we just aren't going to ever land those 5-star QB types out of HS -- they go to factories. But we certainly CAN be an attractive transfer portal destination. ESPECIALLY when our offensive system allows players to put up video game type of numbers.

Winning strategy.

PS-- remember when some posters didn't want us to bring in Angeli, because of how it might affect Jakhari Williams? That's a losing strategy.

Top 50 QBs are clearly the way to go
I mean look how Gavin Wimsett, Bubba Chandler, Walker Howard, or Malachi Nelson
ALL SETTING THE WORLD ON FIRE!

You end up with bums like Eric Dungey, Josh Allen, and Baker Mayfield when you go outside the HOLY top 50 of QBs...

Bit cherry picked, lol

I was just setting the example that having a top 50 should be the benchmark for sure fire QB success or a deep room.
I'm sure I could go through the last 5 years and find alot more that didn't pan out.

I'm sure you could. But a lot of these kids are transferring after a year because they aren't patient. Where you get the Ty Simpsons and CJ Carrs of the world that wait a year or two and then are top of the line guys.

You missed my main point in your attempt to call me out for cherry picking.
YES getting a top 50 QB can be a great think but can also be fools gold.
Also if a guy tranfser and still doesn't produce at the next school, like some I mentioned, they are still a bad pick up in the top 50 spot that the poster is basing the staffs ability to get QBs on.

I'd rather get a top 50 guy than not get a top 50 guy.

Anything is possible but wouldn't conventional wisdom have him following James Rapelin to VA Tech?
he flipped from State Penn before Franklin was fired, also VT is bringing in several other QB prospects of a similar or higher ranking, also already flipped away from VT in the past, I know its a weird world but I cant see him going to a school he spurred to play for a coach he also spurred.

I think he has the skills, but this potentially being his 3rd flip does make me a bit hesitant when it comes to loyalty.
