Is there any reason to be concerned that Angeli couldn’t win the ND starting job this spring? I don’t know anything about who he was competing with, so I ask sincerely.

CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey are the guys now duking it out for QB1.

Likely CJ Carr - apparently the Irish are very high on him.

And since he’s younger, IF Angeli didn’t beat him out,
(Which sounds like was the case)
he’d be stuck behind him for at least a year, and possibly 2.

He already sat behind Hartmann & Leonard.

Dude wants his shot.
We’re giving it to him.

Freshman CJ Carr and sophomore Kenny Minchey. Carr, was the No. 2 pocket passer and No. 36 overall recruit in 2024. Minchey was ESPN's No. 5 dual-threat quarterback recruit in the 2023 class.

Not beating out Carr isn't a concern. Not beating out Minchey is another story.

I'm ready for the QB competition though. Let's see how it shakes out.

I don’t know how much NIL monies are left - nor do I care to know.

But I do wonder if Pena not committing has anything to do with the rumors of Angeli coming aboard.

Being a Jersey kid, he knows him. And I’m sure knows how good he is.
There's a lot of driving and traffic between Ocean Township and Oradell.

I’ve been watching this unfold pretty quietly but I’m super confused why some people are acting like Ricky is now an after thought and this kid is the next McCord. Maybe I’m missing something? I’m glad he’s here… I just don’t get the hype? He got beaten out by a QB who has thrown for 4 yards in his college career. Competition is good and maybe he wins the starting job, I want the best player to play but the situation feels more Drew Allen than Kyle McCord.

Yeah, if Collins stays:
  • He'd get another year to be be immersed in the system
  • He might get some game action THIS year, by design, to help his experience level
  • He would get extra time to work on things like footwork, his throwing mechanics, etc. that were discussed as being his biggest areas of opportunity
Then, a pretty seamless transition to him post-Angeli, with the opportunity to be a multi-year starter.

Angeli was named starter? Must have missed that.

I think people are jumping to conclusions as well.

Either way it’s win win for our program. There is no downside at all

Going into Fall camp Rickie is the starter.
We have three very good QBs that can win games today in Rickie, Jake and ND
We have three excellent Frosh behind them that are young but talented. The SU QB room is loaded. Best I have seen in years.

Hard to win a job when the coach brings in designated starters. It may have never been a real competition

If there’s one thing that I like about this staff, is that they don’t seem like they want to go with a guy they’re not sure can get the job done.

Their standards are higher than our recent past.

In my entire 45 years of fandom, I’ve never felt worse than Troy Nunes first game. The drop off from McNabb to Nunes was shocking.

I was concerned we were going to have that same feeling in Atlanta. Not sure I’m as worried now. Whoever wins will be at least as good as Angeli last year, and that seems acceptable.
Did you miss Joe Fields first start?

Kyle went 12-1 at Ohio State in '23. Of course he was coming in as the guaranteed starter. Rickie and Angeli have done nothing yet to be handed the job. They will compete.
