No. His standard was 2024 and self conscious about what it would mean if it couldn’t match that. He took advantage.
I sure hope Trebor finds himself a program that will feature him because Cuse could be running the same damn offense through Angeli with a ton of targets that coulda been Pena

Belief without evidence…. except there was evidence … and that’s the wrong staff anyways

I still think Pena will come crawling back, especially now.

I’ve been watching this unfold pretty quietly but I’m super confused why some people are acting like Ricky is now an after thought and this kid is the next McCord. Maybe I’m missing something? I’m glad he’s here… I just don’t get the hype? He got beaten out by a QB who has thrown for 4 yards in his college career. Competition is good and maybe he wins the starting job, I want the best player to play but the situation feels more Drew Allen than Kyle McCord.
Watch his film(s) closely, and if you have an eye for this stuff, you will see it, then you will get it.

Then check out college football analyst Greg McElroy‘s analysis of him and the situation at Notre Dame a couple pages back in this thread and you will further get it. This dude is legit

Well wow, this is big folks, almost on par with getting kyle last year.

As for Colins being named starter really no big deal in terms of any judgments. As A coach or player one views the college football year in segments.

It was appropriate to name a starter for the spring segment and have no problem with Fran naming Collins the guy. In the fall segment it’s a whole new ball game with lots of new faces. you need to understand that as a new player, meaning, one who has not done anything appreciably on the field in live game action in the regular or post season. It’s an open competition for the number one designation at any position and let the best man win as it should be.

Notice, I said, new player, On the other hand, if a player has been here for a while, and doing it earning his designation as a starter That’s a different story. You go from the spring into the fall segment as the number one guy and it’s your position to lose only if you’re not performing in games.

What happened to Kyle at Ohio State is abysmal and emblematic of what is wrong at the highest level of the sport.

Collins apparently has had surgery on his thumb so that’s another factor to consider. Angeli is cerebral player, has poise, has better athleticism than Kyle, has good enough arm to hit some tight windows like he did in the Oregon State game, and apparently also has the intangibles of leadership ability. And on the field experience and success both in some meaningless games coming in late, starting a bowl game with a little more meaning and finally coming in a game with a lot of meaning, having success in each of these circumstances.

In all he showed well above average physical and mental ability for the position. Dude is legit. I don’t know enough about Collins to say or see if he’s legit or not and maybe he has similar attributes, this because there’s literally no relevant film on him so as of right now pencil in Angeli as qb 1 come fall evals.

If that does not transpire, I will be seriously amazed, because that means we have another McNabb on our hands, and wouldn’t that be nice

All I can think about is the lost locker room...
We can make jokes about it all day long, but the reality is there was a better way to handle this entire situation. And the only way I’ll think otherwise is if Collins thumb is worse than just a little dust up and keeping him out of the spring game was more than just a precaution.

I doubt it for 2 reasons, this isn’t a Kyle McCord situation where we added a kid coming off throwing 24 TDs to 6 picks and leading a football powerhouse of a school to an 11-2 record. And it seems Fran was able to flip some of the NIL he had available for Pena in this Angeli signing, I don’t think Pena would put his tail between his legs back try to come back for less money.

The NIL situation (as I understand it) is too opaque for me to know whether we have the funds or not. So I admittedly didn't factor that in too much. But I still think he stays.

The Fran “misstep” that this board is obsessed with is a complete nothingburger that nobody will even remember in a few weeks.

The biggest fantasy in football and basketball is coaches guaranteeing someone a starting position when they are recruited.

These highlights are tasty. Imagine watching this and still thinking he's not going to be QB1?

More impressed with his wheels than anything from those clips. Lots of open receivers. Let’s see what happens when those windows get smaller.

But that’s a higher floor than what we have now I would think.

McCord threw into some ridiculously tight windows last year. We’re not getting that kind of accuracy from the current room, and that’s okay.

Agreed for the most part but he did have one behind the shoulder pass on the sidelines that was very McCord esque. Very tight window.

Agree but we gotta strengthen the oline a bit more or it won't matter (except at Center which is still a big need)who is the QB. Adding backups won't help here on the line. The kid from Louisville is one. Fran needs to find another.

Pena is a loss but the addition of Angeli is a ten fold gain. We now have a QB room that can compete with any team on our schedule. Personally the LB addition is also a bigger gain for the team than Pena leaving because based on my observations we have some serious talent at WR. Easily the deepest room on the team. Its a shame Pena left but the DL kid is the biggest loss so far and we have just added two critical players to the roster. Great job by Fran and the staff.
