Maryland did anything they wanted that day. Also had 296 yards passing. Averaged 7.9 yards per rush and 7.8 per pass.

650 yards of total offense.

It was awful to witness the carnage in person.

Best thing that happened to me was not finding my physical tickets for that game as part of the tailgate crew. Lost them in my house. Found them a year later.

That game, in which a bunch of us were in attendance (not so much in attendance as “in disbelief”)was such total disaster and brought the previously high flying program right back down to earth. We haven’t recovered from ituntil Fran arrived.
It was so bad I took a tour of that putrid stadium with my brother (during the game) to begin to mind crush the experience. I had it in a nice box until this thread reignited the memory.

At least the tailgate was solid.
We had developed a small group of friends that where in love with Syracuse because of Dungey's magic. They all game to that trainwreck of a game and mostly stopped watching Syracuse football.
Yea, I brought my wife, son, daughter, and her BF. The tailgate was great ( nice to meet many board members); I recall that Texas Mark was an organizer (among others). The game was a nightmare. I’m thankful for Tomcat’s advice in the 2nd half, to move out of our assigned seats in the blazing sun in the upper deck, to the lower deck where we were under the overhang.

One of the portal QB rankings I saw had Angeli at #21 and Collins at #27. Don't know how accurate that is, I'm guessing Angeli might rank higher on some boards... But short of having a McCord type transfer who started and performed well at the highest level, I love having two top 30 level guys come in and fight. I feel like the odds of having a great QB are higher that way than by bringing in one guy in the 10-15 range.

Partially because all your eggs aren't in one basket, partially because the competition is going to raise the level of play.

When it comes to Cuse football I'm still a nervous nelly with injuries. I don't even care who starts.

What I can't stomach is watching our QB take a cheap shot on the road and be knocked out and we all say well there goes the season but hey at least the young guys will get experience for next year. Basically the better luck next season mentality.

I want to be excited if one goes down and the next man up comes in and says I got this and we give these top 10 teams a run.

Imagine being a NYG fan and placing your hopes on Dart.. man that guy plays reckless.

It's very fair. I think it's okay to be excited that we have two solid options, but neither guy is a slam dunk, day one starter like McCord.

Agree. I just wrote that exact thing to a friend who I sent the article to. He seems to have come into his own covering the football team more. His last one about Fran a few days ago was an excellent piece of reporting and writing.
If you feel that way, maybe brighten his day and let him know. Who doesn't like positive feedback?

I'm optimistic that Collins will be the dual threat QB we are looking for. But I am ecstatic that the worst we can do is have Steve Angeli as our QB. I remember watching him play in the CFP thinking "why can't SU get a kid like this?" Question answered. Now lets get some competition going.

Yeah that is kind of my thinking as well. I'm hopeful that Collins can turn into something great and dynamic but to me he is more of an unknown and wildcard than Angeli. We don't have a McCord type of slam dunk situation but Angeli raises the floor to where i'm not worried about the QB position anymore going into the season.

Tailgate was great. When we arrived there was a guy who looked like he was late 20’s early 30’s wearing a Tommy DeVito jersey. Wise Ass that I am I said to Candi “Look, there’s Tommy DeVito!” “Shouldn’t he be in the locker room getting ready for the game?”

I found out a few minutes later that guy was Tommy’s father. Oh well

Tommy really stunk it up. Intentionally grounding the ball time after time. Running out of bounds five yards from the first down marker on 3rd down and a defender. Food was good as well as the company thanks to Texan Mark

That was the game I lost faith in Dino Babers. We were so poorly prepared and overmatched.

Our defense acted like the RPO offense Locksley has been running since he was in pee wee football in 1983 was some new exotic thing never seen before.

Without Dungey running his own offense, we were a bunch of clueless buffoons out there running around on offense.

Thank god those days are gone.
That still smarts. I remember thinking, "Was the defensive coordinator on vacation the week before?" Syracuse was ranked at the start of the season, but fell into oblivion after that game. Did Dino spend too much time preening in front of the mirror about the 10 games they won the year before? I lost all confidence in the coaches after that game.
