Do we know who else was recruiting him? I don’t understand how he doesn’t have better options to have better chances at starting.

Note that if a QB wants to portal to be eligible to play in the 2025 season they need to be in the portal by April 25th, 3 days from now. In that amount of time, I don't see Rickie finding a new home where he is a guaranteed starter unless he drops down a level. I think he stays and tries to win the job.

And IF Collins doesn't win the job this season, you have to think he portals soon after the season. And Jakhari has 4 more years of elegability, so he would be able to start for 2 years after Angeli leaves so maybe we have all 3 this year. Who knows.

3 maybe the reason he’s coming over more solid opportunities to start. Makes no sense to make Collins QB1 and hand it off to someone that’s not accomplished either.

And this isn't Nixon's first Rodeo in College.
At Baylor the Offense got better from the 1st to the 3rd year, and the rest of the team got better.
He also likes Dual threat QB's for short yardage in red zone. His QB there led in rushing TDS.

Not sure I agree that Collins will transfer. If he does, it would be for a program that has a need at starting position. What programs still have an obvious void at QB1? Additionally, what programs still have an obvious void at QB1 who are willing to pay him whatever he agreed to when he signed here? Not saying it can’t happen just saying I don’t see an obvious path.

Now, if Williams wanted to transfer to a school to be QB2 and isn’t currently receiving any NIL, that I could see happening.

Wiltfong predicts it, it happens. This will be a big add, it is clear that the staff is not totally sold on Rickie. Yes, Fran named him the starter and of course talked him up but they likely see Angeli as an upgrade. Will be an interesting summer camp

Yeah Wiltfong always has been pretty even keeled in his reporting as well. Very reliable with his reporting. Sounds like we are good to go for a QB battle in fall camp.

That's an interesting point.

That mindset may have psychologically "passed," with Collins going all winter / through spring practice trying to win the job.

But maybe he'd be willing to stick it out, if he believes he can either win it outright or win it the next two years.

Kid is formerly the #150 OVERALL rated recruit in his high school class. New Jersey kid [Fran], who played for Campinelle's brother in HS [another connection]. Highly recruited, ended up at Notre Dame. Was stuck behind some pretty good QBs, and wants to go somewhere to start.

Kyle McCord put up video game numbers last year, and this kid probably envisions himself being able to capitalize similarly [not suggesting he'll be near as good as McCord].

Simple as that, IMO.
