The key to losing players will be how are you replacing them. We have already seen better talent "star" numbers, but not much so far in results.

If you lose kids and replace them with better, thats a plus. If you lose them and struggle to replace them thats a bad thing.

The unknown here is how many are the coaches upset about. Maybe only a few are seen as a true loss, who knows

He hasn’t lost a ton of young talent. He’s lost a handful while retaining the most important pieces.

There is enough bad that has happened the past few months that the hyperbole is just tiring.
He recruited them and must have thought they were talented, I’m very high on Fran and the staff so it is what it is, and negative posts can be tiring but the response was over the top in my opinion. Won’t give it much more thought other then that.

Fran is a great recruiter!

But we lost a large percentage of the players he recruited.

They weren't very good!

How are we going to replace them?

Fran is a great recruiter!
Great recruiter, poor retainer, poor coach.his only chance is to win a respectable number of games, become the CEO and hire great coordinators

Ratings don’t mean anything once you get to college—it’s about what you produce when you step on campus. People get too caught up in high school rankings. Toney at Miami was a three-star, and so was AD, who became a freshman All-American for us this year.
No disrespect but I hate when people say that, if you are a team that gets dozens of top 300 players you Will inevitably have more success then people that hope their 3 stars pan out, Fran does a amazing job at recruiting but there is a reason people were so excited by Calvin Russell.

It’s not lost on a lot of people, I would think. It would be curious if those are among the people ridiculing how Autry speaks at his pres conferences.
95 percent of people are happy with Fran and see his vision, but can make observations of concerns, Red is a dumpster fire of a coach, I also like Red as a person but he has done a piss poor job to say least. None of this has anything to do with how they carry themselves, I’d say both do so respectfully and in a positive manner, one just sucks at coaching.

Toney was in the Top 350 nationally on 247 composite
He was rated 89 at 247 which is borderline 3/4 star. He had offers from at least 15 P4 schools.

I agree ratings are a guide and don't mean anything once you report...but generally the higher rated you are the greater chance you will make the NFL

Was also rated between 1st and 4th best in the state of NY. These are the kids I'm glad we get but wouuld love to keep them for a few years.

I mean he was a borderline 5 star before he reclassed

That’s not always the case look at Clemson last year or Penn state or LSU.

IB’s Fran hatred has been on display since shortly after he was hired. It has zero to do with results. He’s admitted that he doesn’t like his “schtick.”
To be fair the majority of the board hated the hire at first based on credentials.

A lot of Frans schtick is very similar to Schiano. Most people here hate when Schiano does it so why is it not ok for some to also feel the same when Fran does?

I don't remember that at all, yes people where concerned about no cordinator experience.
Everyone LOVED his recruiting background and what he was bringing.

What does Fran do that Schiano does, I'm curious not fighting.

I can’t speak to why IB does or doesn’t like Coach Fran, but “winners wash” and having the kids run after UConn is both “shtick” and infinitely dumb.

So was lock the doors
Close your eyes
Believe without evendience
Dream job

Etc etc

We can all have our opinion on it.
Winners was was funny and got a ton of traction and still does.
The UCONN run was not a shtick, they didn't the wake up call and guess what we beat Clemson two weeks later. Yes yes Clemson was bad this year but it's STILL Death Valley and Clemson we don't beat them if we keep playing like we did vs UCONN we don't win that game.
Sometimes you have to hang out your dirty laundry to get it back on track.

It seems like we could be losing at least 20 players every year between the combination of not enough playing time and misidentification of talent level/attitude (getting “the talk”) and moving on to grab a bigger bag at a better NIL funded program. This year add to that a lot of coaches (and recruiters) leaving staff.

For me it just doesn’t seem like that much to lose 25 players under those circumstances. I get the loss of culture to pay forward and potentially loss of player leadership as well. Not sure how that gets addressed, those are tough things to instill quickly in young people.

Hopefully next year we have a good showing on the field and we reduce some of the reasons for the departures. Having a big season in 2026 would mean success for two out of three years for Fran. It would also demonstrate a propensity for executing a quick turnaround for a failing team. A lot there on the table to potentially feel good about.
Agree...he should be able to sell Angeli's abilities to offensive portal players. We'll see if he can get some difference makers

Wasn't Gillians a crown jewel of New York recruit, wasn’t he the highest rated NY recruit last year and we got him over Penn State and other factories. This seems like a major loss.

it's like anything else, the schtick works when you're winning but doesn't fly when you're losing

We are going to loss players. People keep talking about culture when it’s about money. These players agents are shopping the players. Teams are promising certain nil. If SU does not think the value is worth the cost they move on. It’s business decisions and the new landscape of college sports. Every team is losing 20 plus players. Do all programs have culture issue?
If you have issues you have two options. (1) pick a new team to support or (2) donate large amounts of money in nil and put your money where your mouth is.

Haven't seen it discussed but under Robinson it did seem like they wanted really heavy DL across the board even at Edge. Pray and Gillians both at that size 290+ we're playing outside. I wonder if they'll move to more traditional weights/sizes and Gillians thinks he fits better in a different scheme.

Just spit balling we really don't know why guys leave. I wish he stayed but I don't think the sky is falling over one recruit that redshirted and didn't play much especially when it was Nyandoro and Ogebor who played a ton as true freshman

Bottom line is Fran haters will see guys leaving and it just feeds their narrative of the ship sinking. The reality is, Wildhack doesn’t want to go beyond 85 guys. Well, do the math. How the hell are we going to upgrade the roster if a bunch of kids don’t go? So far, we have had very few losses of note. We have an entirely new defensive staff, that alone will send guys packing, and didn’t everyone want the defensive staff overhauled? So, let’s see what the portal brings. Our D will be much better with Vince and if we have a healthy and functional QB, the offense will be much better too

Explain 85. Is that 85 with NIL and 20 with scholarships only?

I think it’s just 85 period. I don’t think he wants the extra 20 on scholarship because the rules state that cuts into the $20 mil that the school can pay to kids
I agree that a large number of current players had to go regardless to get down to 85. I think we will be above that number in 2026 most likely but a lot closer than this past season. Lets wait and see who we bring in via the portal before judging whether it is net positive or negative. I am guessing positive. Fran has made needed changes with the coaching staff. The total collapse this past season was is reason for concern no question. I agree with others that there where probably issues with team culture this past year what they were I have no idea. Would like to see maybe dialing it back in practices the whole work harder and hit more didn't help with tackling and it seemed that we had people getting hurt outside of games too often. We will see if Fran learns from this past season and grows or not. I agree acting as CEO and having strong coaches as coordinators is going to be his best path back to success. I am
still on the Fran bus but back to show me mode.
