Luke Carney in the portal

He doesn't deserve anything. You gotta earn everything you get. I'm sure the story will come out one day.
Yup. The notion that there was some conspiracy and we didn’t play him…so we could lose even more is crazy. The reality is Filardi and carney both shouldn’t have played. There’s a reason Collins had such a long leash.

I’m pretty clear on the story: staff said he could redshirt because they thought they had a starter and a backup.

When they realized their talent evaluation is garbage and the starter got hurt they were stuck between keeping a promise and trying to win.

Instead of being smart and letting a future competitor on the team play and learn on the fly, giving him experience and helping a team win, they instead decided to start a lacrosse player

Why? because they quit on the season. Now they are acting surprised players quit on them. I don’t care what the background “story” is because the only reason it is a story is because Fran made it one by handling the QB as bad as you possibly could.

Except only one got to actually play. Filardi was bad, there is not a chance in hell Carney could’ve been worse. It would be almost impossible. Sorry, if they put out someone with even the tiniest bit of skill I’d say “sure, Luke is that bad” but they didn’t, they put out a guy who likely shouldn’t be starting on a college football field regardless of level. The story internally might be Filardi was better but then it makes no sense that carney was third string and then the backup

Seemed like they really hung Filardi out to dry and protected Luke.

I'm really not sure why if he was leaving anyway. I know you had mentioned at one point it was an effort not to burn any bridges. But still, Filardi might be in therapy after a few of those outings.

OK, so, like, maybe, could it be, go with me here, could it maybe be, especially once we saw how Filardi played, is it at all possible, even just a little bit, that maybe, just maybe, THEY MADE AN INSANE DECISION THAT WAS JUST BAD AND DUMB AND THE FACT THAT THEY DID THAT IS MAYBE LESS A COMMENTARY ON CARNEY'S ABILITY AND MORE JUST AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT THAT COACHES AREN'T PERFECT DECISION-MAKERS?

Like, is there even a smidge of possibility that they just screwed up and made an awful decision, and that was validated by Filardi's play (which was not at all his fault, I'd add)? Maybe?
I do not know what happened this year after Angelli went down, however I do now have major concerns about Fran Brown as head coach. Great recruiter perhaps, but his talent evaluation, on field coaching and overall management this year were questionable at best. For me he is now on the clock as head coach, I hope this year was the exception, but time will tell.

I don't think there's a conspiracy. Somewhere along the way the staff made a bad evaluation with Carney.

There's no conspiracy but one thing is certain and that is Fran, Nixon and recently departed QB coach utterly failed at assessing QB talent and completely lost us the season for it. Not that we were winning 10 games but...well we all saw it. So no matter how things square out, Fran and Nixon better crush the offseason QB search.

I agree totally. I don't do the sarcasm font either (if there is one). That's why I say it in brackets to make my sarcasm clear. Sorry if this is too harsh but your post reads on the surface as downright mean.

There is a sarcasm font but I see you don’t have enough points yet. When you get to 20,000+ points and have paid the monthly fee on time each month to the pay side, you’ll have access to it.

I have said allowing Nixon to put that offensive abomination out there 8 weeks in a row with no adjustments shouldn't have been allowed to happen.
Something sould have at least have been tried go with 2 backs, and put the QB under center. Attempt some rollouts with the option to run or throw.
Run the old option play with the ability to run pitch or throw.
But letting Nixon run the same crap 8 weeks in a row shouldn't have been an option, and that is Fran's fault.

Practice tape!

Looks like all the highlight tapes my sons’s lacrosse teammates made. Everyone’s a star! LOL.

He made some nice throws in practice. Which is cool. Of course there’s an enormous difference between that and doing it when not wearing a green jersey. Also a difference between doing it once and doing it consistently.

I have no clue what the story is with Carney and last season. Maybe he really was 5th best among the QBs. Or maybe the staff totally botched their evaluation. I’d buy either.

I’m mostly just happy to flush last year’s debacle and look ahead to next season.

And if I read one post between now and September about the “deepest QB room in years” I’m going to demand an immediate and permanent banning.

Oh I get it. It's only on the pay side.

Of course everybody looks like an all-american in their highlight tape but the board narrative was the kid couldn't throw. I think all the mistakes that you would normally see if you watch a full practice aside the kid can throw.

Maybe he cant read a defense at all? Who knows?

For all the complaints on the Lax kid, he did actually play the position pretty well, just needed to clean up some accuracy, and the poor blocking didnt help that.

I guess he could be seen as playing well because he threw less interceptions, but it was largely a result of holding onto the ball. It’s the Tommy Devito style of QBing. I still don’t think he competed a pass that traveled over 10 yards in the air to one of his own players

He did against UNC he threw a flea flicker for 25 yards to Darius Johnson.

I was only told Filardi out performed him in practice. I’m not sure there was a broad narrative that he couldn’t throw. Everyone can throw it’s just more about making reads and being accurate.

It was odd they didn’t let him throw in games. But he was clearly given a limited package for when he came in. You only have so many practice reps for the 1 and it’s hard to split them. I’ll be curious to see how he does somewhere else.

we have a long history on this board of overrating every backup qb and thinking they’re amazing based on limited knowledge. I was guilty of this and pushing for anyone but Rickie. I was obviously wrong.

Usually the coaches who see and chart every snap in practice know better. They whiffed on the scouting of Rickey but different issue.
