Question about HC future

Which option would you pick

  • 1. We keep Dino no matter what for next season

  • 2. We replace Dino but to pay his buyout we have to sell the ND game to MetLife to pay his buyout

  • 3. We replace Dino only if we can afford it and keep ND game at Dome

  • 4. We keep Dino because he is the best option

This has to be discussed within the AD.

You don’t think the AD discusses coaches status? And we aren’t selling the ND game.

If the main reason for keeping the HC financial. Then selling a game to take the financial aspect out of the equation should be done for the greater good of the program.

All we hear is we can’t afford the buyout. Well if selling a game takes that out a change should be made by taking the financial aspect out.

Plain and simple.

Ugh

I hope for a new coach but I really don't want to play ND at Metlife again
That’s my point. If finances are the reason to keep the HC then you can take the finances out but it will hurt a little.

So it should be discussed. I honestly don’t believe financial reasons aren’t bad enough that we would need to do this but this option negates that talking point.

Yeah I get it, I'm still just a bit torn. Prolly would lean towards playing ND at Metlife to help the buyout.

We get over $30 million from the ACC per year. We aren’t going to need to sell a game against ND to afford Dino’s buyout. I’ve been saying for months - we have the money. ADJW’s decision is whether it’s the right way to spend those resources right now.

Forgot to add keeping Sean Tucker in Orange as a reason to keep Dino

Yeah I get that.
The buyout excuse shouldn’t be used.
If Wildhack keeps Dino.

He can sell a home game to get finances to take the buyout logic off the table.

This is (or should be) your gem. Don’t go cheap, ever, on your flagship. Just bad business and lacks foresight.

Selling something requires a buyer. A stadium with two NFL teams, a backlog of concert tours coming, and other events, is probably not desperate to move heaven-and-earth for the gate of a two-thirds full house 10 months from now.

i dont think any of the choices are the right answer
My point is financial reasons aka the buyout should not be a reason to keep Dino.
When if the reason to keep Dino is strictly we can’t afford it.
I have laid out a scenario we could reason the capital to pay the buyout but it will cost us a home game.

Finances should not a be reason we keep Dino just so the buyout is one year less.

MetLife would buy this game for multiple million dollars.
It needs content.
They would profit.
Finding a buyer wouldn’t be an issue.

The point is the AD has zero reason to say the buyout is why we can’t afford to make a change.

When it can do what I am suggesting. Sell a home game for the greater good of the program .

Fine, but we’re not selling a game, so debating an impossible hypothetical isn’t worth spilling the virtual ink.

Don't like Notre Dame wish we could be the one school in the ACC who never plays them. After the 1961 fiasco we should have never played them again.

Okay that is fine then saying the buyout is too high should not be the reason to keep Dino.
If he stays it should be Wildhack thinks he is the best man for the job and that goes on his ledger.

Don’t want to here we can’t afford to fire the HC. It would be BS.

I don’t think we have a great reason to keep him, but I also
think we are staring at one or 2 wins with a new coach. There’s some risk from the AD perspective here. If we have 1-2 wins then there’s going to be a discussion about Wildhack.

Wildhack is a smart guy, I highly doubt a buyout is a primary reason to retain Dino.

I do think Dino will be retained, however.

money is always some sort of factor. Like purchasing a new car... you may want a brand new car with the newest and best features but if you only have so much money you can afford to pay, you have to make choices, pay what is more than you want or settle for less. This year the level of jobs opening up are in the deep end of the pool so if we are to decide to make a change the university will have to be willing to pay top end not settle
