Question about HC future

Which option would you pick

  • 1. We keep Dino no matter what for next season

  • 2. We replace Dino but to pay his buyout we have to sell the ND game to MetLife to pay his buyout

  • 3. We replace Dino only if we can afford it and keep ND game at Dome

  • 4. We keep Dino because he is the best option

Sources: Syracuse has let go defensive line coach Vince Reynolds. He’s been with Dino Babers for all six seasons of his tenure.

Is it really worth it tho
IDK. To some it might be. Like letting the star student pick the teacher.
If the transfer portal could be like the transfer window in soccer: sell the rights to players. What might a really good team pay SU for Tucker?

Not the same thing. That’s one game. Will seasons spike? Will donations spike? I responded to a specific comment.
It won't stay the same if he stays, people will cancel season tickets, not me been a fan too many years to stop now. Changing coaches now will at least show current ticket holders that the University understands the situation needs to change.

You’ve talked to everyone?
I may not be amongst the donors but I am friends with a lot of season ticket holders. People are unhappy with the direction of the football team. Only diehards care to spot out differences between g rob, hcss and dino at this point

The financial thing is a board urban legend up there with Chris Ashe. It just gets repeated in every thread.
Thank you.
This is what I believe. As well keeping Dino then should be because the AD thinks he is best man for the job. Finances can be raised obviously we don’t want to waste money either.

What is the difference in dollars between having the game at the Dome at selling it to MetLife? We do make money from having the game at the Dome. i believe the decision to retain Dino has already been made. there are a number of factors involved. the buy out would just be one.
I was told we sold the 2 ND games to MetLife for 10 million.
I don’t expect we would get 5 million if we tried to do it now but I bet we could get 2-3 million dollars if we sold the game atleast.
I highly doubt we could get that much for one game at the Dome.

My point is finances shouldn’t be why Dino stays if the school is serious about being competitive and the last post basically said it’s a narrative and not fact.

6 years is not 2 years. Firing a coach sucks.
Giving them a chance is always the right thing barring a scandal.
This HC has been given enough time.
Another year is pointless unless you think he is the answer longer term.

Plain and simple.
Finances should not be the main reason to keep the coach.
Again we can raise funds selling a game which would suck but would be better for the longer term health of the football program if the only reason to keep the coach is we can’t afford to move on.

I’m sure you know there was a period of time under another AD, who spent like a drunken sailor and mismanaged everything, that we really struggled. Then we fixed that and we were doing pretty darn good…until last year when every school took a major hit due to covid and no fans. I don’t know whether the SUAD was in the black or red but the revenue was significantly less. Common sense says that and I did some rough math in another post. It wasn’t pennies.

They were spending an insane amount on COVID tests last year.

The guy before the last guy was as bad a hire as we ever could’ve pulled.

The covid costs too can be added to my estimates

im a dino guy. i believe he can turn the ship around. but, the one argument against him is the ACC is trash and he couldn't get us to a bowl game. next year's schedule is more difficult.

Bayside for clarity when you referenced the "financial thing ", was that in regards to the university and athletic department taking a hit during covid or there being a buyout?

option 2 or 3. Im not too concerned about the ND game right now!I really just want to see a new coach here & we desperately need it as well, if we dont i think this offseason disasterous!!!

Buyout. It was a board theory that’s treated as fact. Not sure anyone has verified buyout as a reason to keep Dino around.

Is that really the ADs decision? People keep saying it's JWs decision but when big bucks are involved I would guarantee not. I think JW certainly has influence here but IF we do a buyout it's more than the buyout decision because you are also funding the new HC and staff. I would presume JW is organizing his thoughts for a discussion with the Chancellor and to offer a recommendation but also reflecting options and dollars relating to them. It's entirely plausible JW may want to move on but those who control the purse strings don't in this situation. There is allot to think about over the next week. I am sure something official will be made public soon one way or another.
I have enough money for a Porsche. Doesn't mean I can afford one.

I’m actually more concerned about the grumblings that prices are rising….more than a little…on season tickets for next season and we have a lame duck HC that has only 10 recruits signed for this period and now has to hire three new coaches….

Imagine how this interview is going to go…. “ hey we really like you but if you don’t perform in season 1 im probably gone and so are you!”

I’m not sure how you can justify keeping Dino AND raising prices for a team coached by someone who has 5 losing seasons out of 6….

Well, he did follow an AD who didn’t spend and did a lot of things that AD said couldn’t be done. A happy medium would have been nice

False narrative?

Well, Syracuse University rakes in north of $30M from the ACC, media monies, etc. annually, at least that’s my understanding. Therefore, it appears they clearly have plenty of coin relative to the Dino buyout. And, the argument, excuse or whatever one chooses to call it for being the main obstacle in dismissing Dino, is, at this stage, frankly preposterous IMO.

I am saying if they keep Dino attendance will crater. He has proven to be a mediocre head coach at best, and the majority of the fan base has no confidence in him.
University has to decide where this program is going or at least trying to go. We stink.

So you’ll be renewing your season tickets?

Don't like Notre Dame wish we could be the one school in the ACC who never plays them. After the 1961 fiasco we should have never played them again.
You're still upset over something that happened over 60 years ago? Wow - some people can hold a grudge forever.

I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know but that $30m is only part of the schools revenue stream in a fiscal year. Across the country colleges lost $2B of revenue due to covid last fiscal year. SU is no doubt part of that $2B. SU went all of last fiscal year (I think, but not sure, their fiscal year is June-June or July-July?) with no football or basketball attendance, parking, concessions, souvenirs, probably a drop in donations, etc. Sure, they did not have to pay staff at the games such as ushers but I’m going to give a rough estimate based on estimated numbers.

Using an average paid attendance of 30,000 for football and 20,000 for basketball. Using 6 football games and 19 basketball games. Using an average of $50 per person for tix, parking, concessions, etc (may be a bit low).

The result is a loss in revenue of $9m for football and $19m for basketball. That’s $28m total. Almost what the ACC gives us.

So while the ACC does give us $30m the total budget took a big hit last fiscal year and probably a small hit this year due to covid concerns. So it’s not like we are spilling over with cash and tough decisions have to be made on where to spend what we do have. And of course some of our fans are promoting reducing that revenue even further.

Peace
Thanks bees - as always, the voice of reason.
