Question would you take Marrone back as he is likely to get the axe in Buffalo

Tressell is boring? We'll, if winning is boring, I'll take it. Go back and look at his track record for the Bucks, especially their record against their arch rival Wolverines in the prior decade leading up to his hire, vs. their record while he was the hc.

Dude he's a big 10 brand of football coach who had the luxury of recruiting for Ohio freaking State.

Marrone isn't coming back to coach college football.

Not here at least. Burned bridges with SU, burned bridges with many donors and burned bridges with half the NJ HS coaches.

Well, dude, his record speaks for itself. The same OSU wasn't quite so stellar the years preceding his arrival. Don't we have the 'luxury' of being NY's college team? ;)

No thanks. I want a coach who isn't an idiot before I die
AMEN. SU was Marrone's dream job. Then after a few years jumps to the Bills. He had that all planned, about getting back to the NFL. Just like a politician. Can't be trusted.

Developing talent is just as important, if not more important then recruiting talent. Marrone and his staff proved they could do that. Our core guys who were Sophmores on his team have seemed to regress. That should be a huge alarm. I also think Marrone recruited much better then given credit for. What did people expect the first 2 years coming off a 2 win seasons? He had it going his last year before taking off. That was set to be a very good class, and the class before that was very good with three 4 star recruits (Morgan, Thompson, Broyld), and plenty of other major contributors (Parris, Whigham, Morris, McFarland, Lewis, Cornelius, Coleman, Zian-jones, not to mention Knapp). He gets a bad wrap for his inability to recruit. Maybe he didn't like it, and wasn't the most personable, but he had some good recruiters working for him, and we still got players. Most importantly he was good at identifying under rated talent. I trusted his evaluations completely. Losing is losing, but the point is we felt like we were much closer to getting to where they needed to be then we do now. It felt like we had a direction. This feels like we are wandering around in the dark.

Not sure I'd use most of those players as examples of being able to identify or recruit talent.

That's not what happened.

He soured on the work environment and the support he got/didn't get and pulled the cord when he had the opportunity. Was he too sensitive and had unreal expectations about what it would be like going back to his old school, almost certainty, but he didn't go into the job looking to escape out and up four years later.

I think he forgot how ugly the Mac Pack thing was, that most fans have no clue what it takes to build a program, or what condition it was in, and was expecting much more support than he got.

As stated, no chance Marrone comes back, he blew up that bridge for a reason.

For discussion sake, what about Hackett? One would have to assume he interviewed for the job before going to the Bills. He probably has a certain relationship with Gross that he can talk to him discretely "under the table". He already knows the administration and the battles involved. He knows half the players and even recruited a few. His job security in Buffalo is obviously at risk.

Not saying he's the man and I hope we could get someone better ... but right now I'd welcome him over Shafer today. I don't care if we lost every single recruit and game for the rest of the season.

Hes not getting fired unless the Bills really stuff the bed.
All new ownerships want to sweep the place out and install their own guys. I'd be shocked if the Bills' new ownership didn't hire a new GM and HC. YES I would take Marrone back in a heartbeat but i doubt he would have interest. He probably stays in the NFL as an OC.

No. Absolutely no. I like Marrone but I don't think the college game is made for him.

He managed to win with that talent, or at very worst be competitive. His guys also improved throughout their careers. Not sure what people expected out of his first 2 classes, but his 3rd class was very solid, and 4th was going to be very good. Hickey, Trudo, and Foy seemed to be fine as Sophmores. The talent was on it's way.

No Hackett. We don't need three straight coaches without head coaching experience.

yes, but that ship has sailed

If he explains why he left.

Just kidding. ;)

Assuming Marrone gets fired from the Bills with their new owner after this year. Would you as a Syracuse fan take Marrone back as HC assuming their was interest?

I like Shafer but this guy will have more 20 point blowout losses in 18 games than Doug Marrone had in 4 years. Shafer is a good guy but he doesn't give off confidence. Our offense is a crap show and that is embarrassing.
Marrone may be available after season's end.
Nope. That ship has sailed. We have a coach now ...let's support him and the team instead of all the speculation.
