  • It wouldn't be an SU season if we didn't lose at least one game on special teams. They were brutal. Besides the blocked extra point and missed FG, the return game did nothing. I've never seen a team get so many penalties on kickoff returns and even with the penalties, we still can't get a good return. If Estime is back next game and not on KO returns, I will be very disappointed

  • As mentioned elsewhere, Hunt nice improvement throwing the ball and easilly could have had 3 TD passes if the receivers culd come down with the ball. Maybe KJ Williams brings those down next year. He did struggle with some screen passes, but definitely played more than well enough for us to win. he also showed improvement in moving the defense with his eyes. For all those that think he has no shot at starting next year, think again. The incoming Freshmen will be very raw and the current freshman are far from sure things.
  • Defense was excellent-The one killer was Lynch somehow not recovering that fumble. I'm still trying to figure out how he missed it.
  • It's amazing how many penalties we have each game. I think they were all legit, but many were missed on the Pitt side, including some questionable blocks IMO. I wonder if our staff should meet with the head of ACC refereeing at the end of the season to clear up any misunderstanding, as it has become ridiculous, even on special teams
  • I don't think Mcdonald was terrible-my 2 big complaints are: 1) being very predictable on 1st down 2) the wildcat w/ Broyld which has not worked once all year
  • Hickey's health for BC will be huge

Pitt's dt a. donald was indeed a beast in the middle blowing up so many plays but IMO hunt faced nowhere near the pressure and punishment that savage took. yet the savvy savage time and again managed to find receivers for first downs just milimoments before getting nailed to the turf. very gutty performance by savage. hunt not so much. clearly not enuf.

Why do our guys come out of the end zone only to get splattered on the 15 or 20 yard line and the inevitable flag for holding comes out?
Is it a good thing or a bad thing that our kids think they can break one on every return?

Bad thing...take the ball at the 25...play the odds. We have crappy STs this year for our offensive KO returns

I agree about Hunt, he is showing some good decision making in throwing the ball away a couple times. His receivers just aren't open and he was running for his life in the 2nd half on passing plays so I find it tough to judge.

One thing that really cheesed me off was Hunt having to tell Broyld TWICE to get set or adjust his route. He's supposed to be our best and he can't get the basics right. They're not calling his number THAT much so it can't be all that hard. Our other WRs are not having this problem as far as I can tell.

Also, coming out of halftime Schaeffer told the sideline reporter that if SU was going to win it would have to happen on defense. That's a defeatist mentality and makes me think he gave up on this team/season. It was an exhausting one.

we have 19 special team penalties this season. that is quite amazing. i am willing to bet most of those are on holds/block in backs on returns. the only problem is neither unit is a threat to break one. we need a coach just for ST's

the reason savage was able to complete so many passes while being crushed is our corners were playing off too far like they were afraid to get beat over the top. That is fine but you should mix in some press coverage when you are bringing pressure or savage will know I have this even though I'm going to get whacked. On the kickoff returns if I was a coach unless I had an elite returner id tell the returner if its more than 2 yards deep kneel on it

A coach giving up on his team, hence his lively hood? Not a chance with Schaf!

It is painful to watch. We should be able to have a game without a kick return penalty.

My gripe is why try coming out? You catch the ball going backyards 3 yards in is ridiculous to try to think you will gain 29 yards to make it a net positive. Also, with a thin team why put 10 other guys at risk for your selfishness. There is a time and a place to try to return but not on Saturday in those situations.

If we had a real threat at KR (Like Estime) and knew how to block without getting penalties every game, i think it would be worth the chance. Since we don't, it's hard to argue with you.

I don't think a coach is the problem here. it's the players. new ST coach wont' suddenly make a kid an electrifying returner. Thats talent. In addition kids should know how to block.
