Quick thoughts on UVA and the UNC debacle

One worry is that Syracuse does not do well in these "celebration" games. I think Notre Dame beat them by at least 10 when they celebrated 100 years of Syracuse lacrosse. They lost the Mike Powell jersey retirement game to Hopkins. They lost the Gary Gait jersey retirement game as well, to Maryland. Most recently, the good news is, they beat Virginia for the Paul Gait jersey retirement in 2024. So hopefully that trend continues in a positive direction.

To add to that SU's record vs teams who run a 10 man is mixed. UVA will jump in and out of it, gave SU a ton of trouble 2 years ago, something to keep an eye on.

RE: UNC...

The offense looked hesitant and the ground balls on that side of the field, especially in the first half, were concerning. Really concerning. To be diplomatic about it, UNC looked more aggressive. I said what I really thought about it in the game thread for those curious enough to look.

As Jeremy and others have said here and other threads, the same problems keep popping up, and especially on the road. The post season tournaments' champions won't be crowned in the Dome, so we have a limited window to straighten that out. The game at Notre Dame will be an important one to get some out-of-the-Dome mojo working. I hope we can rise to the occasion.

Some of my best memories of games in the Dome are being a lacrosse-infatuated kid in the mid-90s and heading up to Syracuse to see the Michael Watson-Tim Whiteley led UVA offense against Syracuse and their loaded squads. It was just firepower vs. firepower and it was beautiful.

As a side note: When is the last time an attackman took his guy out to the wing and just dodged like those guys? (I forgot who had that move down as his speciality, Watson or Whiteley...but it was fun to watch...just a friggin' speed dodge, either over the top or dipped under and got the crease. You knew it was coming and it was not easy to stop.)

watson and knight both were outstanding wing dodgers and fearless with their bodies prior any crease dive rules. those were some fun games. 1997 was outlandish.
