Raoul Duke.. so great to see you here today....

I miss SuperPurpleCat, that guy was great. Count me as one of those guys who got married, had kids and job gets in the way of posting a lot. Greg Robinson also had something to do with my reduction in interest. As Go says, I am on the Lax board. When I get a minute I try to post there and then skim these if I have time. EdSpiresJr and Millhouse were the first two board dummies I met in like 99 or 2000. Yikes that is a long time ago.

And just like that, it's back to old times again. Raoul, it's safe to come back out! Vivaperu, you're also being paged. Who else, who else...Yegorange? OOT? Let's have an old home week right during Championship Week.
Wow. Viva and yego. And oot. Where are tou all?

So I've skimmed this whole thread and still can't figure out which Admin deleted Raoul Duke's post.

Unless I hear differently, I'm assuming Bayside. We'll throw a beer at him tomorrow, when he's a safe distance from his wife.

It was me. It was the first post I've deleted in a long time, and wouldn't have done so if I knew the history. My bad.

Well said. "Conversation fatigue" sums it up nicely. The new car smell is gone.

And when I read people reminiscing about the good old days when Tristan was posting ... That's when I know your memories are whacked.

Since we are talking about the good old days here, thought I would chime in a bit. Like a lot of the guys/gals here in their late 30s, early 40s who were super active on the board in the late 90s and early to mid 00s, things changed in my life. So yeah, marriage, having a kid, starting my own side business - stuff like that just cuts into the amount of time have for this place. Would I rather spend 2 hours on the board or 2 hours playing with my daughter/spending time with my family? That's a no brainer.

Another factor really is 'conversation fatigue'. i think I reached a saturation point on the small subset of heated arguments that come up over and over. There's just not much more to be said that hasn't been covered already. 15 years of man vs. zone debate is tiresome, and now all but pointless because JB has pretty much shown that he's 100% zone now, so arguing about it is just a waste of time. JB's system is what it is, he's been incredibly successful and is an all-time great, but there is little flexibility in that system, so room for debate on tactics/game strategy seems to get smaller and smaller every year.

For me it doesn't have anything to do with new posters or anything like that. I don't think in general the new flock is any better or worse, they're just unfamiliar to most people, and most people don't particularly like a lot of change.

Anyway, Let's Go Orange! Beat the Hoyas!

AOL days? Newbie! That was the newfangled replacement for the Prodigy board.

Well, I was the first moderator on the AOL board, so that was my claim to fame and where I first met these folks. I did it for all the free hours of time, back when they charged you by the hour.

Wow. Viva and yego. And oot. Where are tou all?

Viva's a great guy. He emailed me when I put a web site for my daughter & our efforts to help her recuperation from autism. He's one of the folks I miss a lot. Shoym was another great poster from the AOL board. And of course many of them are still here.

Where is Dick in Michigan? The poster I mean.

I believe he moved away from the board because of the general tenure that has evolved over the past few years. I miss his insightful and informative posts. Dick bleeds Orange.

I'm sorry that someone with a limited background here... deleted your post. Please come back. We love you

Someone with a limited background can delete our posts?

Dick in Michigan... great poster... has taken a sabbatical from the board... because he feels it has turned into Romper Room. He used to love the board ... and contribute great posts... when he thought it was a mature discussion of SU sports. Now he feels it is frequently juvenile and stupid. He is not the only one who has left for this reason.

My answer to posts I don't like is to make posts I do like.

Perspective is a wonderful thing. Yes, some of us remember life without cable and the internet. But the media were much more responsible then because ... guess what... there were editors.. and things were not printed without fact-checking. Now anyone can promulgate anything ... under the rubric of "news." As a former prize=winning journalist, I find it very sad.

And some of us just read without posting much for the same reason.

yeah, 02 was the memphis game. me and raoul were lucky enough to be guests of CTO at the afternoon cancer brunch with JB. and as luck would have it, we both won 2 tickets to a sky box for the game...and we already had tickets together. i forget who the other lucky 2 we brought to the box were, maybe mad and somebody else at the table??

later, we just handed our tickets to some guy and his girl at the blarney who asked if we were selling for the game.
we said 'no. here'...and walked off.

that mightve been the night we went to flashdancers, i remember you getting yelled at, or at least the story, cause every tip was...this could be going to SU...

i think max came with us.

it seems that i hit a club after more than a few Cuse games, with some out of towners...
I watched the Melo debut from a sky box. Don't remember how I got there but I got there. Pretty sure I am the fourth that crazy night.

I have met Raoul Duke. I am sure that no matter who many kids he has, how much responsibility has taken on, no matter where life takes him, he is always going to feel the same way on the eve of a new season of Syracuse basketball.

He is

LOOKING FORWARD TO SOME MONSTER DUNKS TONIGHT!!!!

Bees, sutomcat, jake, me, bayside, bill orange, orangeyes, temery. I think that is the list.

So who exactly is the one with the limited background on this list?

Everyone on this list has been around since we switched our colors from pink and green...

Edit - Alrighty then, I'm just going to crawl back under my rock. Thank-you-all-very-much for playing...

Note to Self: Read Date on Threads...

It just hit me reading through this thread, where the heck did swish go? He's been gone over a year I'd guess.

Swish has been overcome by parenting...I expect he'll be back someday. He is doing well and living near Orlando.

Some more posters who disappeared from the early days, andreacg and funkycuse. Mia , prolly never to be heard from again. I will try to connect to them now telepathically.

Lol was planning to post anyway before my old screen name got called out (not the funky one)

From a female perspective, the board has improved because there is less sexism and homophobia. Whether this is because people have aged or just gone with the times, or perhaps gotten married and have more empathy for females - whatever, it's pleasant. I don't mind the occasional cheesecake photo but they used to be ubiquitous along with macho man remarks Perhaps they still exist on the off topic boards. I think creating them was a stroke of genius.

There also seems to be fewer ridiculous arguments, perhaps because a few posters I shall not name were banned or rarely post. Of course it's early in the season. Passions and tempers will flare as our favorites or least favorites have the inevitable off night(s). I must say though, compared to one Mets board I frequented this summer, everyone here is sane. Even the loonies.
