RB Garrison Johnson transferred to Kilgore

Most of the guys we have gotten from Texas are the leftovers who 5 other schools in the area don't want (though I think Dillon as a QB is different, as teams generally one bring in 1 QB per class). I'd rather focus resources on getting the top Ohio kids who Ohio State won't take.
Agree. Posted on this before. TX to Central NY is a cultural miss match. Very different in almost everything.

it was a net positive in my opinion. All-ACC 3rd team and led the team in snaps = durability. Do we go 10-3 without him? debatable. Kid was awesome for us.

If I could do the whole Koda thing all over again, I would. But I also don't consider him the normal Texas recruit. Came with his dad, moved in with his in-laws. (wait, maybe it's more impressive that he stuck around for the whole season).

I'm not worried about the culture-I'm worried about the quality of the athlete. Alton Robinson was a great athlete and did great here.

So that he too can get stuck behind 4-5-6 other dudes? Unlikely.

I'd imagine that Adams, Jarveon, and Jawhar are RB's 1-3 in some order.
So, the best anybody else can hope for is RB4. That ain't much to hope for.
Between injuries and other forms of attrition, players can move up from number four all the time.

Apparently Lutz is a running back. Who would have figured?

But isn't NYC or New Jersey to anywhere in the south a cultural miss match too?

Ultimately, it comes down to the profile of the program and opportunity to play.

It's a shock to go halfway across to country for anyone, why is there always an assumption that Syracuse is any different than any other city across the country.

There are 84 other kids on most college rosters and most of them are from halfway across the country too. They are all experiencing culture shock.

This kid was buried on a RB roster and is choosing to go elsewhere, that's pretty much it really.

This is why I wonder how many of our current commits will wind up doing the same. Two kids from Hawaii astounds me. We can pull kids from the Islands at a higher clip than NYC. Bizarre.

Why would you worry about something that happens at every school.

Our 4 year starting QB was from Oregon, isn't that a culture shock?

Alton was from TX, he stayed?

Its all in each kids ability to react and deal with it. Kids with no sense of adventure or optimism probably won't do well anywhere.

And who says this kid will end up back in TX, he will just be somewhere else that is a different culture shock.

They havee to understand that the entire world is made up of places that are different than a 20 mile radius from their Mom's house.

Edit- and I bet those kids from Hawaii stay all 4 years unless they are good enough to go pro early.

"Leftovers who 5 other schools don't want" SMH.

I can't blame a player for leaving because he wants to contribute on the field. You don't travel thousands of miles just to sit. Everyone can't start, but you want some field time.

Coming off a redshirt seems a little early for us to know how likely he was to get on the field. However, I would think players can see the caliber of their competition and get a feel for where they are. Hopefully he finds a home where he can enjoy playing for the rest of his college career.

Sometimes its grades , weed , violating team rules , home sick , playing time , sick family member etc . Could be so many things I’ll leave it at that

I suspect having two from Hawaii will help a lot. They have a companion to lean on.

I think it boils down to the personality of the kid. Some want to get on the field immediately. Others see the value of an education or are willing to work for their opportunity. I prefer the second type of personality but to each their own.

Im surprise Pierre hasnt transferred.

Ditto. Kid seems to have talent, the requisite build and athleticism, etc. to be able to get minutes someplace, if not here.

That said - I do recall reading that he’s been hosting some of our recruits on their campus visits - back when that was a thing that still happened.
So clearly the staff thinks highly of him as a representative of Syracuse, even if he’s “only” playing on ST’s to date.

I also see him semi regularly in S&C twitter pics and videos, so those guys seem to be a fan of his too.
