Cali, question for you. What if there was some situation where there is a holdup with 44 for whatever reason but it's presented that whenever it can be handed out, Robert would he presented the number.

This is what I'm wondering about, too. Obviously, we're in kind of an awkward position, with an interim AD who may not want to rock the boat too much since the search for a new AD is underway. Hell, he may not even have the power to restore 44 just yet. But everything I've heard is that it's going to happen, and obviously, Robert is the guy who would almost certainly get it.

So it's like...it's almost definitely going to happen, but it literally may be something they don't have the power to offer YET because of the change at the top of the department. I really hope that doesn't wind up impacting us, because it's a situation where the staff's hands may just be tied.

The basketball side has it's "Pearl" Washington. Could Robert be the football "Pearl"?

Robert, and Cali, if you're checking out this thread, this is part of Pearl's legacy at SU. I was there and will never forget the explosion of noise when that shot went in.

Pearl brought the excitement, but DC, Stevie, Rony, and Sherm brought the house down, and led to greatness, and Robert would do the same, another 44, as DC was in basketball.

It's a sense that this may be the case.

That's about what I was figuring might happen with the change at the top. It's kind of ironic: Gross was the biggest obstacle to restore 44, but his dismissal is delaying it because our interim AD isn't really in a position to make it official, so we're kind of stuck right now.

The whole situation with this holdup would be making me laugh if it wasn't so frustrating! Especially since, by all accounts, it WILL happen...it's just a matter of how quickly they'll be able to get it done.

That was not Pearl's greatest shot.

Michigan just picked up a commit from a 3-star running back from Alabama, Kingston Davis. 6-1, 225 pounder...so could be fighting for the same role in the offense as Washington would be, too, maybe?

Let me have my wishful thinking!

Really like the analogy, just imagine creating this legacy of pulling a program out of its funk and restoring it to a level that never would have been possible without someone like the Pearl starting it all.

I can't wait to see this board if and when Robert commits to Syracuse.
It. Is. Going. To. Be. Crazy
I'm going to be drunk for a week if he chooses Syracuse. The cheapest champagne as far as the eye can see, and I'll be downing every drop.

EDIT: I'll also be drunk for a week if he doesn't choose Syracuse, but it'll be the cheapest beer as far as the eye can see, and I'll be crying into every drop of it.

Just received this response to my restore#44 email sent to the good Chancellor:

Dear Jared,

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed message regarding the significance of #44 and its long tradition at Syracuse University. Your suggestions regarding restoring the number for recruitment purposes will be shared with senior level administrators in athletics.

Your concern and interest in the future of the football program is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Gretchen

It is nice to know that they at least acknowledged my email.

That's a lot more than I got from Doc Gross when I e-mailed him a few months ago.

Same
Fortunately, I know a lot of folks DID hear from him...so I'm just assuming he stopped replying to them all, because this was right when we started #Restore44 so I can only assume he was getting inundated.

yup...i just got the very same response from her also. Word for word
