Hey cali I know you said Robert had some new schools to think about. Is he going to anounce he is swapping out schools?Like say Alabama for tennesee. Also is he announcing like a reduced group as it gets closer like say a top 4 top 3 top 2 kinda thing. Keep the hype going.

Hopefully my honesty is not going to drive any fans crazy. My purpose is to be open and give insight

He's not going to swap any schools out. He's going to announce from the 6 schools on his list. My gut tells me Syracuse is the leader. Michigan has made a push lately and has gain a lot of leverage.

Michigan- The current RB coach at Michigan was the Syracuse RB coach that approved Robert's offer in 9th grade. So that's something to keep in mind. As well as having open communication with the head coach Jim Harbaugh via tweeter and several conversation throughout the last 2 months.

TCU- He also has a great relationship with TCU Head Coach and RB coach. They have both recruited him pretty hard in the last year. They both keep a open communication via twitter and over the phone

UNC- UNC is the home team in which he has the most knowledge about but with location not being a factor the home state thing is not a advantage but he has a great relationship with the head coach and area recruiter. They both have a open communication with.

Alabama and Florida is in the same position here. Both Head Coach and Position Coaches are actively communicating with him.

Notice my theme with each school. That was my point of my spill a few pages back. I wasn't knocking anyone I just wanted to light a fire under certain coaches and let them know this what other schools are doing. Not to bash anyone. If anything I tried to help.

That's a good point with Michigan - I keep forgetting that Wheatley is there as the RB coach. I didn't realize he was the one who first started recruiting RW for Syracuse.

Potentially another way that Marrone leaving potentially screwed us ;)

All I can possibly hope for is that somehow Robert will change his mind and try to get back to campus one more time before making his decision. I know it's probably not feasible this short notice, but man...I wish like crazy it was possible. I know that Scott Shafer and the crew could convince he and his family that Syracuse is the right place.

May I ask if Shafer isn't communicating with Robert, who is? I assume Eric White, and DeAndre Smith?

Also, in an interview Robert gave last week he said he spoke with Shafer every other day via social media. Was Robert just being polite not wanting to throw Shafer under the bus? I guess that's why a lot of people were shocked when you said they have never spoken. Any clarification you can give on that would be greatly appreciated.

Eric extended the offer but Wheatley approved it

Coach Smith have been. After someone put them on notice they have tried to get Robert on the phone with him the last week. Both their schedule haven't allowed them to get on the phone. But side note It's legal to contact him on twitter at this point if it was a urgent. Hummm every other HC is doing it. Just saying not bashing anyone so please no fan bash Shafer for my comment.

During the interview he was being polite. He's not going to throw anyone under the bus. That's not his style.

I just hope that everyone involved becomes aware of just how vitally important to Syracuse football Robert is at this point. I think he's even more important than a lot of people understand.

I cannot stress enough how much Syracuse needs Robert Washington at this juncture.

I realize how important RW is but SU has been the bride maid so many times it's hard to put my heart into this recruit. Seems like I am always saying "What if"

I think all of the fans realize that. Someone better send Shafer a memo though.

For the most part I think you're right. But I think he's even more important than most believe. I know, that's saying something. But whatever the importance most fans give him...I'm starting to become of the mind that it's not enough.

The coaches, hopefully, will start to realize this as well.

Recruiting is like trying to get the hot girl. Some hot girls like the attention and need constant massaging of their egos. Some hot girls like when guys play hard to get.

There is no right formula. These coaches have been doing this a lot more years than I have.

The one thing I will say is that we don't know what the plan is as it relates to each individual recruit. We are not privy to the closed-door conversations. What may be in the best interest of one program who needs to make headway in a recruiting battle may not make sense for a program who has already done the legwork with the relationship and is now just trying to time things right and close the deal.

Again, I'm not sure what the scenario is in this case and how the relationship was built and how it has developed. I just know that there are (at least there should be, in theory) plans in place for these scenarios and situations.

If there aren't, then we'll be looking for another football coach sooner rather than later.

Cali

When Steven was being recruited, he didn't talk to Coach Shafer much, not even on twitter. Most of the back and forth was between Coach Bullough, Coach Daoust, and Steven. Coach Shafer wanted to make absolutely certain that he wouldn't violate NCAA rules concerning contact by head coaches.

I understand and I'm not saying he's doing anything negative. I'm just given insight that's all

And it's not a recruiting violation after Sept 1 of a players Junior year to reach out via Twitter. It's in the NCAA rules and that's common knowledge to everyone. So we all are clear that if he's reached out by twitter its not a violation.

Cali - Does Robert feel it is a slight or disrespectful that Shafer has not reached out to him, or is it kind of not a big deal and you're just giving us some insight into things.

At this point, I just hope everything can fall into place. Hope that a new AD is named, so we can restore 44. Hope that Coach Shafer's schedule allows him to contact Robert sooner than later. I know that from a fanbase standpoint, looking around other message boards, a commit from Robert wouldn't mean nearly as much to any of them as it would to Syracuse. He could be a folk hero here. Honestly, I can barely find reference to Robert on other message boards. On here, he's already becoming a legend.

At the end of the day, of course, the best decision for Robert will be made, no matter where that destination is. And I hope when that day comes, everyone keeps an extremely level head if his decision is anywhere but Syracuse. Always remember: these are basically kids, making an enormous decision that will impact the rest of their lives.

So...you're assuming they don't know? I completely disagree.

Even if they feel that RW isn't a huge step-up (which he is) from our current and/or incoming RB's, I'm sure they understand what landing him would do for the perception of the program.

I'm not just talking about the perception of the program. That's a huge part of it, obviously.

For those better informed of the rules, what contact if any can HCSS have with Robert between now and 4/25? Twitter, text, e-mail, phone, in-person, carrier pigeon, etc.?

Twitter DM I believe is allowed just about whenever. In person, it would have to be a visit to campus, as he's not allowed to make any trips. As far as phone...I could be wrong, but I think phone calls are supposed to be initiated by the recruit. But again, I could be wrong. It's been a little while since I've looked at the regulations so they may have changed.

I know. Just saying that Coach Shafer is a bit "anal" when it comes to avoiding the appearance of impropriety. =D

Rotary telephone or beeper or games of charades. Nothing else.

I think this is a really interesting and relevant observation jekelish, The Syracuse fans are so ready for Robert Washington to commit and change the program... it's literally something that I'm thinking about on a daily basis. There's a 48+ page thread on the kid...

Twitter has no bounds the rules haven't accomadated social media yet. Phone must be initiated by recruit. So coach dms on Twitter saying here's my number. No in person contact off college campus till next year from now on. There is a on high school premises where the coach can being doing an eval and say hello type of thing but other than that from here out just on cuse campus. Texting has same rules as calling
