Am I disappointed the way SU has played the past few weeks (as well as giving away the Rutgers game)? Sure. Am I surprised? No.

I thought we were looking at a 5-7 or 6-6 season anyway.

Too many key losses, especially on defense, to think otherwise.

But that doesn't mean 7-5 isn't out of the question. We'll see.

I'll be statisfied at 6-6 regular season with a post season Beef Win...I always thought 6-6 or 7-5 was our ceiling. Like you way too many losses on Defense.

Other teams had as many if not more losses than us. Don't look at just the SU datapoint.

Considering the losses and tougher schedule I considered 7-5 an improvement over last year.
I looked at 6-6 as holding serve. Since there's no way to get 6.5 wins, 6-6 and a bowl win would be OK. 6-6 and a bowl loss is going to be hard(er) to sell as progress. Although consecutive bowl games is a step forward, a bowl win is needed to confirm it. In short, get to 7-6 or 8-5 and it'll be easier to (try to) forget about the individual games and look forward to next season.

The reality is:

The conference is crappier this year than expected.

... and so are we.

How is the conference crappier than expected? People expected it to be crappy, and it is crappy.

WVU was overrated and USF , a pre-season conference favorite and top-25 team,. has been abysmal.

I think the operative status is "Exceptionally Crappy"

Did you expect UConn to go from BCS to craptastic? Did you expect rutgers to have zero offense? Did you expect WVU to be so beatable? Did you expect Lville to be able to compete for the league title after losing their whole offense and starting 7 frosh? Did you expect a team many picked in the top 2, USF, to be 0-4?

Yes, the BE is crappy but the magnitude is much greater than most expected. The BE is so crappy that I am not afraid to say 2/3's of the way into the season, that in hindsight SU had as good a chance at the title as anyone.

UConn is the same team they were last year, they were just more fortunate in 2010. That UConn team would not win the conference this season.

Rutgers is MUCH improved this season compared to last.

Cincinnati is possibly the most improved team in the country.

West Virginia is the same if not better.

Louisville is playing like a Top 25 team right now. That's what happens when freshmen grow up and perform to their capability.

USF is 0-4 in conference...and 4-0 OOC. How is that an argument against the conference being worse?

The Big East is better this season than in 2010. It still sucks, obviously, but last season it was historically awful.

The Big East had serendipity 4-6 years ago with several great coaches and overacheiving teams...heck even Rutgirls had a moderately successful team in '06. You can't keep losing guys like Petrino, Rodriguez, Dantonio and Kelley and expect to keep 2-3 teams up in the top 25. The league is in rebuild mode but I'm glad we are moving to a destination league where coaches stay or get fired for the most part.

I don't think I agree with a single statement there. But that's OK. UConn is the same team? They lost their QB's and now play a freshman and a walk-on, lost their top 2 RB's, their leading WR, a few lineman, their 2 best defensive players, etc. Not going to bother with the rest as I don't agree with those either and it's not worth it. The BE blows.

The BE has always been this crappy. BS schedules and playing conference games against other crappy teams has, in the past few years, masked the crappyness.

The BE sucks. And Marrone has us fighting for last place.

Get that man a contract extension as a reward!!

The writing is on the wall it's year 3, Huge year next year if they remain the in the Big East, BCS huge or I believe it's time to move on

Of course the Big East blows, that's not the argument.

You're trying to tell us that Marrone's coaching performance this season is even worse when you consider the Big East is worse this season than last. That's simply not true. If nothing else, it's the same.

My opinion is that Marrone did a better job last year. And I REALLY hope nobody takes a leap and says I don't think he can do the job. I have said a multitude of times that he is the right guy and in the long run he will prove that. But, that does not mean that mistakes aren't made and everything is nirvana :).

The fact of the matter is, this team has beat much better teams than its losing to. That is what is pissing me off. Just because I expected us to go 6-6 doesn't mean that I should be happy we are after we realized we should be going 9-3

Last year SU won two unseemingly winnable games by playing well in the fourth quarter - West virginia and South Florida. This year SU has lost two seemingly winnable games by playing poorly in the fourth quarter - Rutgers and UConn.

That is the difference between last year and this year.

Losses in some programs are more devastating than losses in other programs.

Our situation is different because of the lack of program depth that has impacted us the past few years.

When LSU loses four top players this year, it means very little because four top players come in as replacements.

The BE did stink last year. IMO it is slightly worse this year. Last year with 3 home and 4 away BE games, Marrone went 4-3. In addition the last three games the team was beat up physically and had nothing left in the tank. That had a lot to do with ending 1-2 after a 3-1 start.

This year with 4 home and 3 away games, we are off to a 1-3 start. He has not done a good job thus far. If he can finish 2-1 this year, everything will be ok. I can deal with 3-4. But if we go 1-2 or 0-3, Marrone will have a lot of explaining to do. I am not saying that he should be fired, but he should absolutely take a look into making changes to either his philosophy or his staff. No excuse for going 2-5 in this conference.
