So instead of working this morning, I got curious and decided to take a quick look. I just grabbed a handful of season totals from BBRef and looked at the averages. Caveat: This is all D1 Schools.
2006: 3PA% - 34.9% , 3PAofFGAs - 33%, 3PM/FGM - 26%
2010: 3PA% - 34% , 3PAofFGAs - 33%, 3PM/FGM - 26%
2015: 3PA% - 34.3% , 3PAofFGAs - 34%, 3PM/FGM - 27%
2021: 3PA% - 34% , 3PAofFGAs - 37%, 3PM/FGM - 29%
So, just looking at those numbers, the 3P shooting percentage is remarkably consistent over 15 years. The percent of FGA that are 3PA is pretty consistent until at least 2021 when it pops up to 37%*.
I don't know, I'm not seeing much of a change. Now, that said, this is the whole D1. Maybe the better teams shoot at a higher percentage, or have more guys shooting 3s. Maybe if we just look at the P5. There's more work to be done here, but right now, shooting 3s hasn't changed much.
* Even so, this works out to an extra 3 3PA per 100 FGA ... not exactly earth shattering.
