Obviously statistically our rebounding against St. John's looked much better, we outrebounded them 42 to 31 and had 16 offensive boards to their 13.

Going into this game I was assuming our rebounding would look better because we had Melo back, but more importantly St. Johns is pretty small and has been getting beat up on the glass all year.

Interestingly enough I don't think we got that big of a jump in the rebounding from our frontcourt. Christmas made a nice contribution with 7 and KJo was a bit higher than normal with 8 (6 offensive). Melo only contributed 3, Baye - 2, JSouth - 3 and CJ only 3. Nothing really standout there.

Looking at the box score it looks like the improvement came from the guards. We had 12 boards from the backcourt. MCW - 4, Dion 4, Scoop 3 and Brandon 1.

Did we do something different in terms of having the guards crash the glass harder or did the ball just bounce differently last game?

Both. Guards have to rebound in a zone. Our guards have a tendency to leak...in part because JB puts so much emphasis on uptempo.

But even JB noted last week that we lost a lot of funny bounces the week before (I believe it was in SWC's radio show write-up).

The guards were moving to the ball very well; it looked like this had been a point of emphasis during the week. What's more remarkable than the decent rebounding totals is the fact that we shot extremely well. There were a lot fewer misses to be had, at least on the offensive end.

I haven't looked at the stats yet, but being at the game, I got the idea we were murdering them on the offensive glass.

Just looked it up, we had 14 offensive rebounds, and they had 16 defensive boards. So yes, we killed them on the offensive glass. And 24 defensive rebounds to 9 offensive rebounds for them; so yeah, we killed them on both ends.
