Recruiting problems 21'

I would agree with that. Not too mention the location, boston and syracuse... lol
I'm from Syracuse. I will defend it to the death. And while it's not Boston, there are more fun cities than Boston. Especially when Chestnut Hill is not in Boston.

Dude, here is the situation:
1. SU now has very competitive facilities.
2. SU is a great school with a tremendous alumni network for jobs after football.
3. Weather is a non-issue. If it was, Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan etc. would never get any recruits.
4. Location is an individual choice. Living here, I can tell you that nobody in Boston gives a rat's behind about BC football except a bunch of alums. Oh, and it snows like crazy here too.
5. What SU needs to do is win.

im from syracuse as well. Actually i live right on campus, few blocks from westcott & Euclid ave and i know a lil about BC. My uncle tony in the 80s played football there OL, Anthony jones, No big star as far as i know but he was there. Unfortunately for him in the 80's especially boston he picked up a bad habit! God rest his soul, recently passed, but chestnut hill was in the city limits

Chestnut Hill is part of Newton. But, borders on Boston.

Hilarity. We have top ten teams sniffing some of our commits (three star guys, ya know, average commits).

Yeah it's a pretty nice spot to spend 4-5 years I don't think there is much disputing that. I do believe the catholic/ jesuit connections is the difference maker though for sure which has been discussed at nauseum at this point

Was your uncle from Syracuse? Because that brings it back to where we started. Syracuse and Upstate don't produce talent any more. The socio-economics have changed.

“Tree” that was Tony’s Knick name at Henninger. He was a few years behind me but I knew him very well. Later on in the 90’s we officiated HS football together. Your uncle was a good guy, gone too soon. RIP “Tree”

Section 3 ADs need to consolidate and merge programs.

It'd increase roster sizes, talent pools, and allow for player development.

It'd create savings for school districts and allow kids an opportunity to play if they want to but their school doesn't have a team currently.

yes came out of henniger in the 80s. The population just started to drastically drop! This past year was the first year since we didnt lose population, actually gained 9k. Thats like a miracle for syracuse & upstate

No one ever really wants to bring this up - but academics matter. A lot of the board believes it's a positive "what a great education you can receive" but I have heard before it has hurt Syracuse in the past. I believe they've lightened up for acceptance but I believe it plays a role (who's to really say what %) on why some kids stay away or aren't look at harder (poor HS grades)

Add that with weather, facilities (although improving), location (not ideal + not a HS hotbed)

Other people have responded about 1-10 season (certainly doesn't help) and a HC who hasn't lit the town on fire record wise during his tenor.

It's a recipe for mediocre recruiting. It's why system matters so much and finding a few diamonds in the rough

thats how im feeling right now. like i said!!!! I mentioned all of this things that these people have mentioned.
BUT, i have no subscriptions or no insider info so thats why i was asking or looking for if out there. I mean lol am i speaking chinese, wow!

Yes, absolutely it’s all of the things you mentioned even with a subscription service it’s what you know because you know you know and it feels the same for everyone so I think everyone is in the same place and feeling it a little bit but that’s even without knowing any mandarin for its how we get to the place we’re at. Thank you for the feedback.

Assuming that athletic talent is normally distributed (Gaussian), NY should have the same share of gifted athletes as any other state. Given that it's population approaches 20 M, we should have an advantage over less populous states.
Granted that many of these athletes are not football players because of a variety of reasons. Syracuse needs to identify promising candidates in other sports and coach them up as football players. Not the easiest way to do things, but eminently doable.

Are you saying Syracuse has not admitted students for academics? I have heard of this issue with BC/ND but not Syracuse. I mean Fab Melo got admitted to Syracuse. I assumed a pulse (and a creative resume from HS) was the condition of admittance at Syracuse

Our admissions were never ever an issue at Syracuse and I frankly think it's helped us in the past and probably in the present too vs more selective schools we are in comp with.

Our issue is coaching has been mediocre for almost two generations now, we lost all goodwill from the 80s/90s where a generation looked at SU football as progressive, innovative, "cool".

There are very few P5 schools that aren't flexible with scholarship-level athletes.
