Red’s last stand - Georgia Tech Game

Personally I hope not, I was looking forward to the sequel "Red's Last Stand: Pittsburgh" in a few days.

This has to be it, right?
Well played sir! Made me smile with my morning coffee.

I still stand by my opinion that the Clemson game was Red's last chance to pull this season back onto the road before it runs into the ditch.

1st league game, at home and a manageable stretch of league play coming up. Win the Clemson game, go on a run and the season goal of NCAA Tournament was still there.

We didn't get the win. Short of a miracle, the Tourney isn't happening, and Red will be fired.

That was the point I was trying to make.

Cheers!

Red needs to string some wins together now. Not great odds but possible.

But Freeman is already here.

Taking 25 minutes a game from Souare and White and giving them to Freeman is a substantial upgrade.

We have to cross our fingers that Freeman plays like the second half against Clemson the second half of the season.
With bad Freeman we were down 1 at half. With goof Freeman in second half we lost by 3.

That is ignoring the flow of the game... When Freeman scored his first points at 11:50 of the second half, we were down 8, and his heroics got it down to 1 at one point. We didn't pull out the victory, but that burst is an example of what Freeman can do for a team. It might not even be his ceiling.

One thing in particular I noticed about the Clemson game is that they are outrebounding their opponents on the season by 6, 38-32. Syracuse is getting outboarded on the season by 1, 36-37.

With Freeman out there, we lost on the boards to a good rebounding team like Clemson by only 1.

Clemson averages 11 offensive rebounds on the season, and Syracuse allows over 12, mostly without Freeman. With Freeman, Clemson got 7.

It is a very small sample size, but it sure looks like Freeman can help us in two weak areas, Offensive consistency and defensive rebounding. Kyle and Freeman look like a really dynamic pair of big men, and our guards are good enough to play a supporting role if a healthy Freeman can approach his ceiling.

It is kind of funny how a guy scoring 18 points in 12 minutes against a top50 (at least) defense can be met by a Ho Hum attitude by so many fans here.

I get I am Mr. Pollyanna, but show some joy, guys!

Well said. Consistency.

A Clemson 3 point loss is not even a blip on the radar if Autry and this team hadn't already dug themself in a hole with Hofstra and by sleepwalking through December. Plus last season + his presser comments on offense just fueling the fire.

I have concerns that Kyle and Freeman need to be on the court pushing 35 mins a game. Suare and Sadiq just don't get us enough offensively and every min they're on the court is the other team getting separation offensively that we can't make up.

Now the odds are just stacked against them. 6 road games over 10 games in 31 days and they really need to be dominating.

I think we can play Kyle and Freeman 30-32, with White and Betsey getting time. Souare in for a few minutes to keep him engaged. Kingz, Starling, Anthony and George play 1,2, and a bit of 3.

I really don't want Kyle and White out there too much together, but we should press when we do play them together. The half court offense is bad as it is, but having two guys whose primary skill is dunking out there together makes things really stagnant.

A lineup with White at one end of the press, with Kyle at the other, with Kingz, Betsey and George in the middle could be a chaotic threat during the time when we dint have our best player and best threat to drive on the bench, and give reserves a chance to alter the course of the game.

The only possible way this turns around IMO is if Freeman is able to carry the team.
I don’t think that’s the only way. Other guys are capable of doing more if we put it on their plate and others SHOULD be doing less. That said I don’t think Red wants to or is capable of making those necessary changes.

Yea for sure. Sadiq shows his youth alot too. When we have a lead we've seen him dominate but when we're playing in slugfest or from behind sometimes he goes into hero mode. If he just plays tough defense and grabs boards it should be fine against alot of the ACC>

I am sad to admit it, but I would much rather miss the tournament this year and have Autry shown the door than make the tournament and have him potentially stay. This is agonizing for someone who used to have their week ruined if Syracuse lost.

Yes, the change should have been made last year. It is so obvious that Red is overmatched at this level. It's not fair to him to have these expectations because he isn't ready for it. It is really unfair to the fans and the city to accept such mediocrity from a formerly respected basketball institution. Why on earth were the reins of this great program handed to a nobody with no experience...and kept after year two when he clearly showed he can barely handle Lemoyne. The management of this basketball team is utterly ridiculous. We need an outsider to come in and clean this mess up.

I’m hoping we win a bunch of games starting tonight, and that Autry and the team improves as the season goes along, finishing safely inside the tournament field. Never rooted for my team in any sport ever to lose for any reason, which is what missing the tourney would mean- losing a bunch of games. I’d rather be optimistic, root for my team and hope they win, rather than be pessimistic and root for the other team to win- if you root for Cuse to lose and miss the tourney, then I assume you root for the other team to win?

I think most of us are still clearly rooting for success it’s just reality weights heavily opposite the likelihood we have that success.

Anyone here mike and the maddog fans? When George Steinbrenner would issue a missive, and they would play the theme from patton. I feel like we need the theme from Patton for these posts.
I remember that!
