Red

We need some better horses in the stable if we're going to play the high-intensity m2m all-game. We need hockey lines! Hopefully, those players are coming.
To get those better horses we need to send the other horses to another ranch.

It's valid in the sense that if you're assessing a team not even half way into the season, you shouldn't dismiss them as hot garbage.

It's simply not valid and I didn't dismiss them as hot garbage.

There’s a lot to like about this team, but I have a hard time seeing them winning games on the road in the ACC.

My problem is that I don’t see much I like about this team. Do they do anything above average?

I think the athleticism is above average and they are capable of pushing tempo when other things fall into place, but yeah. We’re reaching.

I thought Wildhack should've gone outside the program, but I don't think that was ever very realistic. But Red has impressed me. We don't have any seniors or first-round picks and very little outside shooting but are 10-3 with no bad losses against a challenging schedule. I love that Red has been playing with different lineups to figure out what works in a given situation and is constantly learning and adjusting without overdoing it.

The team is steadily improving and actually fun to watch, which hadn't been the case for awhile.
Agreed. I think you have to look at Felisha Legette-Jack’s progress from Year 1 to Year 2. The women’s team has taken a nice leap forward this season with a sparkling record and a signature win against a top 20 team in ND. I think that should be Red’s goal and our outlook for the first 2-3 years.

I can't get over how impressed I was with both Red and the team tonight. We got clean looks down low and finished them, got clean jump shots and hit them and didn't turn the ball over. We went 13-16 at the rim, compared to UNC's 13-21. We were also the better team down the stretch and were damn near perfect over the last few minutes with the exception of a couple missed free throws.

Even though we led most of the game, it's hard to overstate how thin our margin for error was. UNC made 44% of their threes, went 9-11 at the foul line, won the rebounding battle, did a pretty good job of holding onto the ball and STILL lost, which is extremely hard to do in today's game.

We got a little lucky with UNC missing bunnies and us connecting on so many jumpers, but Red absolutely outcoached Hubert tonight.

It would be nice for every game to not be a referendum on Reds coaching.

Agreed!

If you consistently read the comments on this board you can't help but come away thinking the typical Cuse poster has bipolar disorder. After losses it is the end of the world, and after wins it's sunshine and blue skies.

Folks have got to calm down and give Autry a couple of YEARS to restock the program with HIS players and institute HIS system.

This win was nice, but it is not a signal that we have turned a major corner and are close to being in the tourney and capable of consistently beating top-tier programs. If we can shoot over 60+% from the field on a regular basis well than maybe, but I don't think that's where we're at. There is still lots of work to be done . . . and that's a fact, Jack!

Count me as a satisfied customer for where things stand in the very first year of the post-Jim Boeheim era and willing to give Coach Autry breathing room to shape the program to his vision.

In the meantime, a round of Xanax on me!

Red has the DNA and had great mentors. He is has done a remarkable job this year. Jesse bolts at the 12th hour. Injuries, drama, crazy tough start in Hawaii...he has remained steady, solid. Red has been a leader and winner since grade school. He's got this.

Another stupid question by me here, seems all of our coaches are deep rooted in having played and coached the zone. Does it hurt our man to man defense in that none of our coaches have effectively coached man let alone played a ton of competitive man after say high school? I know red was with Seth and Griff was somewhere etc. I’m not criticizing I’m just wondering. Thoughts on whether red and the staff can coach a killer man D? In answering my own question I think they can but still wondering.

I think you are seeing Red establishing his style. It's what I been waiting for, use 2-3 or MTM depending on situation. M2M is nasty at times, not perfect yet, but you can see it, the 2-3 is the change up, loving it. UNC was a M2M matchup nightmare for us, but they couldn't adjust to the curve ball we threw with that aggressive 2-3. Been a while since we've strategically used different defenses.

Also, someone mentioned the communication among players and Benny leaving being the reason, part of it I'm sure. The reality is only two things are going to happen when you go through tough isht. You're going to grow from it (which is what we're seeing) or they're gonna break.

They played for each other and their Coach last night...

I’m totally in for bumping this after every game
Oddly, it doesn't seem to get bumped after every game. Just some - must just be a coincidence :)
