I'm really looking forward to seeing how the new four game - anytime rule will manifest the development of this year's team. I certainly expect to see the four freshmen WRs get some run early. Hendrix getting much of the attention so far but could Lutz contribute in the slot and be a better fit for the Erv role? I expect we will see two slot WRs no more than 25% of the time - I expect Pierce to be so good that he will virtually never leave the field - but I'm not sold on either Custis or Riley as a slam dunk for the other side.
On the edge it may actually be more difficult to earn a role. Butler looks to establish himself as the clear #1, Nykiem adds electricity if we are willing to give up some size. Jordan appears ready to step forward as well. Some bodies there to climb over if anyone other than Hendrix looks to step into the rotation.
Hopefully we come out hot against WMU to start auditioning in the 4th quarter of that game and on into Wagner. Going to add some intrigue to those early games for sure.

outside of wagner, I can see the staff saving the 4 games to use freshman until the end of the season where depth becomes an issue. This can change depending on circumstance but its probably the baseline assumption that the coaches will hold on to those 4 games until the end.

Babers said in the ACC presser, that he has a responsibility to the team, to play the # 2's. Don't expect him to play a RS , unless he's a serious consideration for #2, just because he can... End of year? If injury demands it.

Thinking Queeley sees some early time as well. Hendrix has all the ability and needs some time to put it together. I think Q’s the most polished heading into late summer/fall

I think he will have to play them for Wagner assuming we are comfortably ahead, even if just as a recruiting tool (I have to think there will be a pitch thread about what team gave their RSF the most PT). That said, Babers knows he needs the early games as much if not more than the late "toss up" games if he wants six wins. I can see more twos and some true frosh if injuries demand (Devito last year) but getting six wins is the first and most important hurdle. If he is at 5 with three games to go, no redshirting freshman is going to see the field if it can be avoided.

I think it makes sense to save them till the end as they will have time to learn and the starters will need the rest.

It makes a ton of sense, but we go into ND or BC with 5 wins, the only freshmen seeing the field are the ones with more than 3 games worth of experience already.

I think if you get a chance early to let the FR get live reps, you take it. They have the steepest learning curve and game time is the best teacher. At least one early game anyway.

It's a fine line using the maximum time available to them without burning a shirt and having them ready to go if depth calls for it. I think it's a fantastic rule. A lot of youngins are gonna get valuable reps.

Interesting dichotomy here. My take us you take advantage of the rule early to evaluate freshmen early and determine which are ready to burn the shirt and move into the rotation. The other approach is to save the four games until later in the year where injuries and depth to overcome injuries becomes more evident. Another aspect is the recruiting benefit of being able to show future classes that there is a real opportunity to see the field early.
I suspect we will see a mix of the two and different approaches for different players and position groups. It will be fascinating to see how Dino uses the new rule and how different programs in different stages do do. How will Clemson react vs. a team like Western Michigan?

My opinion is we take advantage of this and use our first two games to give us an idea of who gives us the best opportunity to win games while on the field. I do not believe Western Michigan is all that far off from the quality of a p5 or say a houston/memphis
