They were making deep tourny runs, we had back to back nit's, i remember a bunch of people wishing we had jay wright over jb. Im thinking theyre having a change of heart now.

All teams fall on hard times, it doesn't mean the coach is bad. If JB were to leave and there wasn't a succession plan in place, Wright would be in my top 5 to be a replacement.

JB's bad is never as bad as Nova is this year.

Maybe Jay Wright and Jamie Dixon both sold their souls to the Devil around the same time, and now he's come to collect.

well pitt just lost to depaul...eeeeesh...

We are a bigger program, we get better recruits, our falls should be less than theirs. Remember we were a 4 day GMAC rampage away from 3 straight NITs.

Except we HAD that 4 day GMac stretch to avoid the NIT, and one of those NIT seasons definitely should have earned an NCAA bid.

In 2007 UConn didn't even make the NIT. UNC had a 20 loss season within the last 10 years. Our bad seasons are 20-23 wins and an NIT. As much as those suck, they're not that bad.

I know I never said I'd rather have Wright than JB, but Wright is a damn good coach just as Dixon is. We've had some stinker seasons ourselves and maybe with more talent.

We were two NCAA snubs away from not missing the tourney in over a decade.

I'll give JB a ton of credit, his worst years are NCAA bubble years where we end up in the NIT. Never had a losing season. Has failed to win 20 games only 3 times in his career. That's pretty damn impressive. As an SU fan for 30 years, I feel lucky to have had a coach as consistent has JB leading my favorite team.

Duke had a sub-500 year too when coach K was having health problems.

Also, we were pretty much in the NCAA after day 2 of the BET that year (when we beat #1 UConn our RPI jumped into the top 20). The BET championship was just the icing on the cake.

Looking at the Pomeroy stats over the last 10 years, this years Nova team and 03 Nova team were the worst, than our 06 team, then a few more Nova teams. Nova's 05 team has the highest Pyth based on Pomeroy, except when I calculate the formula I come up with this years SU team has the best. Over the last 10 years I have SU having a .91 Pyth avg and Nova a .88. Is that due to better players or a better coach, I don't know, anyone care to weigh in with recruit stars?

Wright is a good coach, but he needs to leave Nova now. Needs to go to a BCS program.

I think that is going to happen very soon. He knows he has to leave.

He should have went after the Maryland gig, imho. He was crazy not to even consider it.

Cheers,
Neil

MD would be a good gig. but i think there is a lower ceiling on how much he can earn there vis a vis other BCS programs.

Why not PSU? wright can go to any program and get it to Nova's level overnight. even though PSU sucks lemur balls now, e could turn the program around quickly.

someone once told me that Wright wants to replace coach K as the nat'l team coach and finish his career just doing USA basketball (and TV work on the side).

Wright is a good man and a fine coach. He has a young team and recruiting may be an issue ongoing. Time to go.

Jay Wright will have no shortage of suitors, anytime he wants to leave Nova. Good programs have clunker years..it happens.

I agree. Maryland is just as high profile as 'Nova, he wouldn't have had to move far, he'd make much more money than at 'Nova, etc.

His recruiting classes, although highly ranked, just haven't panned out.
Yarou hasn't developed past a serviceable level, Wayns is a ballhog, Armstead transferred, & Dominic Cheek is effectively a bust.
He also seems to only recruit smallish bigs & guards, guards, and more guards.
The BEast has gotten bigger & badder just in the last few years- that "little ball" crap doesn't cut it against the big boys.

The good news is that I won't overestimate Villanova and Pitt this season and have them ruin my NCAA brackets, like they have the last 3, 5, or 7 years.
