Hello

Can you guys provide me with the name of the closest RV park to the Carrier Dome? I had looked a few months ago and thought there was an Indian casino outside of Syracuse with RV parking, but now cannot find the place again in my searches.

Additionally if I wanted to park the RV near the Carrier Dome, I believe the only location is Skytop Parking location. Is this a large parking lot? How early can someone park their RV in this location? Lastly, how far is it away from the Carrier Dome?

We play Auburn in Baton Rouge the weekend before the Syracuse game, so will head out from the LSU campus on Sunday morning heading north. We have looked around and plan on spending a few days before and after the Syracuse game visiting the Thousand Islands area.

Appreciate any information that can be provided....TIA

Turning Stone Casino.

Yes Skytop is pretty large. Don't know what time it opens.

About a 15 minute walk? Has a shuttle too.

Thanks for this information, appreciate it

FYI. State campgrounds close after Labor Day weekend. There is a private campground called Riverside Acres just outside Clayton NY that would suit your needs. It is located right in the heart of the Thousand Islands. Go to Alexandria Bay and take the Uncle Sam Boat tours of the Islands. Awesome.
Also, Clayton has the Antique Boat Museum which is very worthwhile.

Forgot. Swan Bay Resort is JUST opening outside Alexandria Bay. Pricey, but check out their website

They use to let them stay over the night before, I can remember the Tennessee game where my family and I got up there about 7:30 am and we started to knock on their RV doors to wake them up. That was when we had about 30 family members have seasons and it was just food fest for us. A big Italian affair with some Irish thrown in. They had a bunch of RV travelers for that game.

You could always drive in before the ticket takers show up and sometimes they came around to collect the parking fees and other times they didn't

if you can make that walk in 15 min Bees you are better than most. you can do manley in 15-20 but its not a casual stroll thru the cemetery at that pace. its a solid 2 miles of not very even terrain and mostly uphill coming back to sky top. its 10 min from north manley to sky top if you hoof it.

SU will let you drive in the night before to park your RV at Skytop. If you are making this a vacation...I would suggest Turning Stone as you mentioned. It is about 30-40 mins east of Syracuse near I-90.

Another option is Brennan Beach. Only the hardy will swim in Lake Ontario in late September but it is possible on a warm day in late September. The big attraction here is the sandy beaches and world class Salmon Fishing a few miles away. Google Pulaski salmon fishing.

If you are coming from LA...you can look at staying in the Finger Lakes. They are gorgeous in the Fall with the wineries in full force. Try the Rieslings...I think they really good.

Finally if you want to visit Canada and the 1000 Islands...you need to set aside the Sunday for the Boat Tour.
I would call them to make sure. http://usboattours.com/1000islands/?page_id=268

If you go over to Canada you need a passport. The US dollar is really strong against the Canadian Dollar so it is a bargain to visit. Follow OBurgOrange's RV recommendations as he lives up there and has an RV himself.

There is so much to see and do in NY in the Fall. You'll be about 2-3 weeks past swimming season but the days should still be nice. If you like Baseball a trip to Cooperstown is a must. If you like beer...a tour of the Saranac Brewery in Utica (about 15-20 mins from Turning Stone is cool). If you want to megamall/entertainment/eating place try DestinyUSA. You can park your RV at Destiny across the Hiawatha Blvd on the SE side of the Mall. That lot is huge and only fills up for XMas.

Finally if you need anymore inspiration of what to do try these two websites

I agree...unless you are fit and the day is gorgeous...take the shuttle from Skytop.

Clark - "So, when did you get the tenement on wheels?"

Cousin Eddie - "Oh that right there? That's an RV. I borrowed it off a buddy of mine. He took the house, I took the RV. It's a good looking vehicle, ain't it?"

Clark - "Yeah, looks so nice parked in the driveway."

Cousin Eddie - "Yeah it sure does. But don't you go falling in love with it now, because we're taking it with us when we leave here next month."

Appreciate all the information you guys have provided. I agree for gameday, the shuttle will be the choice. In southern Louisiana, everything is flat. In northern part of the US, every first step is either up hill or down hill ... laughing. RV looks somewhat Cousin Eddie's model, maybe a little cleaner and with entry door in front of front wheel...lol. Love following the Tigers on the road and was excited when Syracuse was announced. Always great to see a different area and game environment

CajunTiger...please bring up some Cajun for the Cuse Skytop folks. Some andouille sausage in the jambalaya will knock their socks off. Be sure to try the various Upstate NY foods when out and about. You surely will be offered a white Hofmann coney (hot dog) from Cuse fans...be sure to try it. Throw spicy brown mustard on it and enjoy.

Mark--give the guy some help on the CNY pronunciation of "coney"and "Pulaski".
I would also suggest that the gentleman purchase some Frank's RedHot Sauce to compare with his state's rightfully famous Tobasco.

CajunTiger:

Please inform my friends as to the proper pronunciation of boudin, and then describe the difference between the red and white versions. Lastly, bring several rings of the white to make friends up here. You can keep the red. Thanks.

There may be a lot of traffic for a big game in September; another option could be to take the shuttle until the street is backed up, then bail and walk the remaining half-mile or so. Could be a big time-saver.

and dont forget the salt potatoes- gotta try them when in cny

Tagging on TexanMark's places of interest, if you do the Utica brewery tour and you like guns, the Remington Arms museum is just down the road in Ilion (10-15 miles). I haven't been there, but I hear it's worth it, if you're into that sort of thing.
