Great episode, need to check it out if you have not. I came on board around 86/87 when I was 11ish. Loved the early look.at the original big east; old gyms and all.

I recorded that on DVD many years ago and watch it every so often. It is a terrific production in my opinion. Good thing I recorded it as here in Canada I no longer have access to ESPN Classic or any ESPN on-line stuff or apps (like ESPN3 for example). The CRTC (Canadian Radio and Television Commission) are run by socialists and hate any "non Canadian" media stuff. There are always lots of videos on ESPN.com, CBS Sports.com, etc. that cannot be downloaded by Canadians. Drives me nuts, but I still would not want to live anywhere else. Thank goodness I have a couple of good streaming sites for watching SU hoops games that are not broadcast on the regular ESPN channels or formal networks. Sorry for the rant.

Pre-ordered the moment after the original airing. Great look into what made the BE the BE. Especially for those of us too young to remember what it used to be like.

I really love the 30 for 30s. They continue to impress me with how well they're done. I also think it's a cool tradition that that have one after Selection Sunday each year.

I don't think I have seen a bad one yet, the Doc and Daryl one was pretty good, looking forward to the next one.

They are generally great but a couple have been duds. The one on the Raiders stunk and I'm still not totally sure what to think of the one where it is just Bill Simmons talking about the Red Sox to another dude in a bar. Some of me hates it and some of me kinda likes it.

The Big East one loses a bit of steam at the end where they focus on the JT2 narrative that the demise of the BE was all Syracuse's fault even though the GTown athletic director came off as a preposterously short sighted and selfish imbecile who did a lot of heavy lifting to ensure the death of the league. The first hour is awesome though. It is basically like someone made a documentary about my childhood.

Personally, I thought the Georgetown reps looked absolutely horrible to any unbiased observer. On one hand, JT2 was crying about how everyone in the Big East had to put their own interests aside for the best interests of the Big East...then when football came up it was "why would Georgetown care about Big East football"?

Which sums up Georgetown perfectly - they will always be a contented partner, as long as every single decision is in their best interests.

Requiem for the Big East was a good 30-for-30, but it could have been much better than it was. It basically was focused entirely on the great bb in the 80s and then talked about how the changing times and football eventually broke up the league by moving quickly to the end of the line. No real mention about how the bb programs faltered in the 90s, how the league was almost brought to the brink of extinction with the first ACC expansion in 2003, how the bb rebounded with the new additions and a revitalization at Nova and Georgetown, how the football surprising survived the loss of Miami and VT, only to have the inevitable forces of football-centric expansion break the league down forever only to lead to the new entirely bb-centric Big East and a Big East bastardization of the ACC. I bet you could get a compelling 4 hours of that story, especially taking into account the greed amongst both sides of the Big East and the impact ESPN had on many of these events. But that would then require ESPN to be willing to hold up a mirror to itself not just for the good, but for the bad as well.

Cheers,
Neil

They have taught you to think that way.

The former Gtown President looked bad, I can understand him being upset by what happened, but if he was at a school that played big time football, he would have a different tune.

Enjoyed Doc and Daryl too. The one on the Shaq-Penny Magic and the one on the Fab Five were probably my favorites.

I like Simmons but I think that was just an excuse for him to do one on the Sox. The whole premise of the 30 for 30 series was stories that don't seem to have the impact you think they would. I feel like the Red Sox comeback was and is still huge.

I loved that they did one on the Bills. I suppose others may disagree (particularly those from the upstate/central New York area), but I feel like the Bills losing four superbowls in a row should have been a much bigger story than it is/was.

Yeah but when ucon fans realized their team was barely mentioned it made it all worthwhile. :rolling:

I always wanted to know more about the driving forces behind BC, VT, Miamai (and almost SU) leaving the Big East when they did.
