McCord has become the new standard of comparison for his ability to throw into tight windows, to command the game with his awareness (except at Pitt!) and to keep healthy by staying upright. After our hunger for an elite dual threat QB, now we just want another Kyle. Not much to ask for, is it?
 
Have we thought about the possibility that he’s better than his mentor, Jayden Daniels? If not, why not? He can just go off this year. I think about that often.

yeah that kid is one of the few case studies against the recruiting star system.
 
An interesting comment from Nunzio in the latest Syracuse dot com article: “It would be hard to say now that nobody has a leg up at all.” Then his only other quote about QBs mentions them being impressed with Rickie. An unintended double negative or hint-hint, nudge-nudge?

This thread wasn't about Rickie Collins it was about the difficulty our schedule presents to us for 2025.

Here is some information to get this thread back to its original topic, Collins He did not have the opportunity to play much at all at LSU so here's his HS info:

HIGH SCHOOL
Rated as one of the Top 10 players in the state of Louisiana for the Class of 2023 … Followed up an outstanding junior season by connecting on 127-of-209 passes for 1,512 yards and 17 TDs … Rushed for another 598 yards and 6 scores … Passed for 1,930 yards and 16 TDs as a junior on his way to earning All-Metro and LSWA Class 5A All-State honors … In a 5-game season in 2020, totaled 1,449 yards and 16 TDs … Three-sport athlete at Woodlawn – football, basketball and baseball … Finalist at the Elite 11 QB camp, which annually attracts the nation’s top prep quarterbacks … Coached at Woodlawn by former LSU starting quarterback Marcus Randall.

For all of you college QB coaches in this thread the above is very good pass and run production, throw in All State and Finalist at Elite 11 QB camp and you have a very good QB. It will be interesting to see the competition between Collins and Williams this spring and at camp. :)

Collins being a baseball player would explain his wind up… I casually looked, and apparently he batted a Ted Williams-like .406 as a high school senior.

I don't think those stats are all that great for a supposed really good QB. But stats only tell part of a story obviously. There were 20 Elite 11 finalists in 2022 and he finished #11 according to 247. So that is PRETTY good. We'll see.

Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, depends on how you look at it i guess. But after 2 years, not much shown from any of the QB's in that top 11. Of those guys, the only ones with any kind of production are Dante Moore (Oregon), Jackson Arnold (Oklahoma) and Avery Johson (KSU).

Makes me think twice regarding predicting Carney to push for a starting spot as a redshirt freshman. And also makes you think maybe Collins should have a leg up on Williams due to having one more year under his belt.

So without much being said and reading between the lines and also the 247 analyst tweet…. Sounds like he may just be in the driver seat if we had to guess right now. Obviously so early and nothing means anything right now. I’m so excited to see how Nixon caters to the new regime of QBs.
 
I'm hopeful that if Collins wins the job, that Williams stays and doesn't leave. I could understand it from the standpoint of having his path to playing time blocked, but dual threat qbs have a tendency to get a bit banged up and in need of replacing from time to time.
