Rather have a #1 than a #2.Hope we don’t lose #2.
If he wants to start it's better to leave after the season and find the right fit for spring ball.Rather have a #1 than a #2.
That said, assuming Williams is 2, I don't think he helps himself much being in better position to play by entering the portal now.

I feel like every player is on a one year contractThis is a big deal. Sportswise. He could be the man for three years maybe…

Sure, but its easier to keep the guys you already have, if you're playing them and competitive about paying them. No guarantee a guy who leaves for a bag ever gets on the field. Just ask Deuce.
As much as it sucked for SU it made all the sense in the world for Devito. It was his 4th season and last year of eligibility with a redshirt to use. He left after 4, found a place to start and now plays in the NFL. Not the same situation for Williams. I’m going to guess we are going to run Ricky a bit. Williams could easily step into a starting role at some point this year. The back up in only 1 snap away from an opportunity to win the job.
I don't understand how these kids quit on their teammates, especially in mid-season like DeVito did. And sure enough, Shrader got hurt, and we wound up playing Dan Villari as the Wildcat.
I think last year was the first year since Nassib that we went a whole season without our starting QB going down to injury.
He's better off staying this year and seeing what Collins does in game action. It might not pan out for Collins and after 3-4 games he could get a legit shot at starting. He would still have 3 years to play if Collins proves to be a legit starter at Syracuse and move on after this year. Even in today's environment, it would make sense to wait at least this season. Never know.If he wants to start it's better to leave after the season and find the right fit for spring ball.
Injuries can happen as well. I think he can still push for the starting job. Just needs a break/window.He's better off staying this year and seeing what Collins does in game action. Is what it is. You have to make decisions.Hope we don’t lose #2.
And every bit as dystopian as it was for Shakespeare and Huxley. My first thought, too.
Life in this brave new world.
I thought it sounded weird, too.Considering Rickie has been in College significantly longer than Jakhari, it seems like an odd logic to me. Why not give it more time and let it play out if it's even?
Yeah

But... glad we're decisive and focused.
I agree, but what is there to lose by waiting until after the Spring game, at least?I agree. But there is an advantage to naming someone as your leader now. It also prevents a split locker room as some kids will be QB-a guys and others QB-b guys. Only problem is you better be right in who you chose now.
I don’t think it was really that close. I don’t believe we get much coach speak from Fran but this might be one scenario where he strategically says something in hopes that his backup will stay. He however also mentioned that he realizes the reality he may lose guys in the portal.I agree, but what is there to lose by waiting until after the Spring game, at least?
Yup. And I think his decisiveness in naming Collins QB1 this early communicates a sense of confidence to the team and Collins.I don’t think it was really that close. Fran doesn’t want a divided locker room. I have heard him mention that aspect of this at least three times. He wants to name a starter and get everyone on board. It appears Fran believes that a united front is more important than avoiding a potential transfer.Yup.
