Rickie Collins

I think Collins will be the starter, but Jakhari is still the clear #2.

Why would he be leaving? Because this board already anointed Carney as next up?
I think if Rickie wins the job (which he will), Jakhari is potentially looking at never being the starter here. If Rickie is successful he'll start next year too and still have more eligibility . I don't think Jakhari would want to sit for 3 straight years. I have zero info but my guess would be its more likely than not that he transfers.

In college sports everything is year to year now, who says Rickie wouldn't transfer? Maybe he gets injured during the season. There's no reason to consider transferring until after the season and see what happens.

Rickie has never started before. He could falter. He could get injured. Maybe he excels and goes pro after 2 seasons? Who knows. Or maybe he starts for 3 years and Jakhari is the back-up and plays if any injuries occur and then has an opportunity to start his senior season. Or maybe earlier if an injury occurs and Jakhari plays well in back-up duty. Him leaving requires Jakhari to find a better situation than what he has currently at SU which is likely second string behind an unproven QB. I don't see him leaving before 2025 starts unless he wants to go to a lower level. But that could very well be what he decides.

Id take a KM each and every year obviously. However, we did lose something in his inability to run.

I liked Shrader for where we were as a program, and I loved his competitive spirit. However, that guy just loved throwing balls into the dirt on third down.
Better than Devito throwing into the stands or to defenders... need receivers to be open

Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end.

Here's me thinking you had some inside information and it was just summarizing an Axe article?
The only info I had was that the staff had put him with the same QB coach that Kyle had and that they were really impressed.
Jak leaving was speculation based on the Axe article.

I have revised my view of the most important qualities of a top QB. I always went with the “IT” factor followed by dual threat capabilities as the optimum college QB. I don’t think that view was wrong for 20 or 30 years.

But watching McCord play this past year has made me rethink things a bit.

The IT factor remains. I don’t think ANY kid can be a highly successful college QB if he doesn’t have some special degree of confidence and determination. However, I’m now thinking that being able to process the defense and make quick throws/decisions leaps ahead of dual-threat physical attributes. It even surpasses the old tag he “makes all the throws.” KM gave us a high functioning offense because he was a quick processing QB. Read, snap, read, throw. I don’t think we’ve ever had anything like that. And we may not have that level of efficiency for a long time.

Whoever wins the starting job this year, I hope they can present at least a strong element of that in their game.
The single most important quality a QB has to have in order to be successful occurs between the ears. Nothing else matters if you can't process at the line of scrimmage.

Player 2: An actual school legend. Ya'll can miss me with comparing Dungey to Shrader. I've never seen one player be the soul of a football team the way Dungey was.
I actually think they were the same player…splitting hairs between the two. One had chronic shoulder problems and one had concussion issues. Both had some limited throwing abilities, but their arms were good enough.

The players who played with them absolutely loved them.

It’s odd to think one was that better than the other.

Agreed, they weren't all that different at the end of the day

Anyone know or hear how Rickie played in scrimmage yesterday?

Here ya go...

"Syracuse’s second week of spring practice offered a first glimpse with pads on and the Orange’s first 7-on-7 action this offseason. In the portion of practice open to the media, LSU transfer quarterback Rickie Collins — who’s likely Kyle McCord’s replacement — completed 1-of-2 passes, connecting with freshman running back Malachi Coleman on an out route."

2027 6th overall pick, here we come!

No arguments there. Though DeVito's issue was that he'd take deliberate sacks by running out of bounds behind the LoS.
Clearly, one of the reasons that the NY Giants started him.
