Rickie Collins

With potentially Steve sidelined, the pressure shifts onto the young quarterback who was once penciled in as just a backup. Now he’s expected to steer the offense, and that means more than simply throwing the ball—it means commanding the huddle, reading defenses, and making smart decisions in real time. He’ll need to process quickly, identify coverages before the snap, and make the right adjustments to give his receivers clean looks and keep the protection solid up front. Confidence will be the key, because any hesitation against a fast defense can turn into a costly mistake.

The physical tools are there, but what will separate him now is his ability to handle the mental side of the game. Quick reads, sharp footwork, controlled pocket movement, and the discipline to take the smart play rather than forcing the big one—all of these will determine if he can keep the offense running smoothly. The challenge is steep, but the opportunity is clear: this is his chance to prove he’s more than just a backup

Without Angelli, the QB competition needs to be reopened. Collins had an opportunity to show he was able to close out a critical game and didn't.
If he doesn’t show something very early next week play Carney and build for the future.
If u expect him to just walk in and score you are crazy he got a couple first downs but yes he need stop improve and improve fast and not turn the ball over .

You play the person who gives you the chance to win, and unless Collins has a good 1st quarter next week against Duke play for the future and that is Carney.
This team is on track for a bowl now. Collins is our best chance to stay on that track. Yes, if he is a disaster against Duke, maybe consider Carney the following week. But we really have no idea how ready Carney is

You're willing to give him all of one quarter? And the future? Angeli and Collins both have time, as does Carney...Fran Brown plays for the NOW.

Carney is gonna get a long look. Collins is very raw as a passer, I wouldn't be shocked if Carney became the starter at some point this year.
