and your point is? Probably the reason he transferred one would imagine. Do you think the starting QB at LSU is going to transfer to Syracuse? You do realize that Van Buren transferred to LSU after Collins left.

Nobody knows what Collins will do this year as a starter but where he stands on the 2025 LSU depth chart ( a team where he was never on the roster) doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot now. Many also have Nussmeier as the first QB drafted in the draft in 26
Let’s not forget there have been great QBs sitting the bench

Sometimes very good players don’t play. let’s not forget there have been great QBs sitting the bench like Joe Burrow at Ohio state. If he had stayed there he would have never played at all.

Comstock44 why the dislike of Collins being a savior. Have you not felt it in your bones?

I don't think anyone is saying Collins won't be good...

I think some are simply thinking he won't be a pigskin Jesus, like McCord was (leading the country in passing and one of the best single QB seasons in Cuse history.)

That's OK. Those types of players come around once a decade (if you are lucky.)

I had my hopes up when Carlos Del Rio-Wilson transferred from Florida and look how that turned out.

That was a tough one... turned out all the recruiting services and analysts mis-judged him as P4 D1 prospect.

Total whiff.

Florida knew it once they saw him in practice, I'm sure... and Dino couldn't over-recruit him off the depth chart.

One man's trash is another man's treasure? ;):p
We went searching for a come up.

QB's can be a bit of a crap shoot. Just because CDRW didn't work out doesn't mean others won't. I mean we all know he will not be a seasoned McCord in his second season starting at QB. I'm a little skeptical of Collins, partially because of his throwing form in his highlights and then his HS stats were so so. I know his senior year he had 4 new OL starting so that probably didn't help him. Also the other 4 star QB that LSU had gotten from Lousiana in the 2024 class, Colin Hurley, had very similar stats to Collins so I think the competition is likely tough there and its hard to put up stellar stats. Sidenote, Hurley was involved in a serious car crash this past January. It looks like Collins footwork and mechanics have gotten better since his HS season and from some articles it sounded like it was even much better as soon as he was at the Elite 11, which he did very well in. The mental side of things and leadership skills play a large role in how well a QB will perform and I know Fran knows this from the things he's been saying. The fact that Fran and Nunzio seem to be petty positive about the state of the QB room and decided on Collins already at this point has me a bit more hopeful. But the offense is certainly going to take a couple steps back IMO. It has to without a high round draft pick starting at QB. I'm glad we can now start getting Collins more reps at the position to accelerate his development and improve his chemistry with the receivers.

In our case... once every three decades

Martin Van Buren Jr. He's the reason why Collins and AJ Swann left LSU.
Martin Van Buren Jr was a son of Martin Van Buren Sr., our 8th president. While he was from Kinderhook NY, in our prime recruiting area, alas he was not considered a P5 prospect given he died in 1855.

I think you might mean Michael Van Buren Jr.

I wonder how much of Collins we'll see this Saturday at the Spring Game? I'm hoping to see him for at least the first half.

Many more know more than me, but that sounds about right. Similar to McCord last year, right?

Chester A. Arthur. 21st President. 1881-1885.

He was Collector of Customs in NYC.

Rickie forgot to flash the 8 fingers or he would’ve been starting over him.

if memory serves McCord didn't play at all, if the competition is truly over I'd expect the same. If he's playing then it's a closer race than advertised with the coaches wanting to see them all in game situations.
