Rickie Collins

Our backup QB forced into action was a 4 star recruit that saw the field a little bit at LSU.

We’ve come a long way since Braden Davis, Mitch Kimble, Clayton Welch, Rex Culpepper, Austin Wilson, AJ, Long, etc.
Long was the kid that got the Syracuse bicep tattoo right? Did he ever see the field? I don’t remember lol.

Quick thoughts: Angelli was really coming into his own and was quickly building confidence. Really stinks to see him go down like that. Wishing him a quick recovery.

With Rickie, I think they need to keep it simple. I trust Nixon to incorporate what he does well. Though my viewings of him are limited, I’ve noticed that his mechanics and feet tend to be all over the map which leads in inconsistent accuracy. He has arm talent and seems athletic enough to be solid but the key will be limiting what we ask of him to start.

I think Carney would he the #2 if he wasn’t a true freshman. His biggest limitation seems to be size and experience.

With that said, I rooting hard for Rickie. He handled Angelli winning the job with all class and that goes a long way in the locker room.

I am concerned that Rickie will come in and try to force it too much as he did in the Colgate game. Especially in front of a sold out dome after a big win. However, I fully expect him to relax and play and be just fine. However long that takes is the mystery. Could be a few possessions, it could be a few games.

Ricky's gonna get a long look to and obviously a long first crack at the job. I hope he runs with it but again there's some flaws there which I worry about and why the staff went and got Angeli. Hopefully we don't need Carney but I think he's in play at some point.

All true.

However, he is now the prohibitive starter, and needs to ramp up.

He isn't Angeli.

And he came into a game cold, on the road, against a team that was predicted to win the conference title this season. Tough spot to be in. And he made some plays, and missed a few others.

At least this week, he'll have the entire week in practice to get ready, to be mentally focused, etc.

Angeli's likely injury means he could be out for a long time, and impaired even heading into next season. Stinks that it could derail what has started as a promising season.

Yes and unfortunately we’ll have to lose to Duke and a few others before a switch is made. I’ve seen nothing from Rickie in the spring and fall to earn my confidence.

Always playing victim, tiring dude. We’re one team here we just want the best outcome and Rickie looked really shaky vs Colgate. I hope we get proven wrong by him but I barely feel good about the win today given we lost our QB for the season who was really finding his groove
I'm not going to get into whether or not I agree with bnoro, but how is his statement "playing victim"?

Rickie will wow us at times and probably have us scratching our heads saying What too. Some guys take the natural step when they’re on the field. I’m not going to judge Rickie based on yesterday. He came in with a lead and we just needed to protect the ball. He made a great TD throw. Let’s see how he does when he’s the starter and gets to prepare with the 1s.

Rickie threw one interception, then came right back and put together strong drives. I don’t get why everyone is so negative toward him. The kid has the talent — he was a 4-star recruit with a massive arm, and Jeff Nixon is going to keep getting him ready. Give him a full week of reps with the 1s, time in the film room, and mentorship from Steve Angeli, and he’s only going to improve. Let him play next week before you start judging him. People are already bringing up Carney, and he’s had literally one snap — that just shows how quick folks are to overreact.
Also Rickie threw a touchdown on his first throw vs Clemson.

Thank you let’s see what the staff schemes up for him.

This take alone gives me more confidence in Collins…

To be fair, you saw “nothing” from RC in the spring because you didn’t see him play. He did not play in the spring game. And, there is not much to judge him on this fall.

But, Angeli was clearly the better QB heading into the season and I don’t think the competition was close. Collins clearly needs to step up and Nixon needs to scheme to take advantage of his strengths.

Let’s see how it plays out.

Thank you for being our worst case scenario, doomsday guy. Every fanbase needs one so that the rest of us don't need to go there.

You've been at practice to see him and how he's developing?

Why are people so hopeless about Collins? He’s had limited reps, and yesterday he didn’t turn the ball over. All he needs to do is get the ball to our playmakers, and that alone will win us more games.

From what we have seen thus far he is giving CDRW vibes.

This O is so much about quickly knowing where to go with the ball and delivering accurately. He hasn’t shown either yet.

Hopefully with first teams reps and more attention from the coaching we will next game.
