It would certainly seem like our passing game will take a hit but let's see what Rickie can do. Like many, I am concerned. That is mostly due to the unknown plus what we have seen. Still, Rickie had a nice TD drive when he came in.

I was very impressed with how Rickie handled not being QB#1. He was very supportive of Steve, he was classy, he was team-first. He emphasized continuing to improve and being ready in case he was called upon to help the team. That is what a solid teammate does. That is also what a true leader does.

So, I'm all-in on Team Rickie. It is his opportunity, and I hope he comes out blazing. Will he be successful? We all hope so. He may not be and that is yet to be determined. Until such time, he deserves to have the fan base behind him. I'm behind him and I am sure the team is as well.

I was nervous yesterday until the end, but mainly about Clemson's abilities, not ours. DART is real. We don't play in a vacuum and talented opposing teams may well beat us, but i have more confidence in our ability to compete with good teams than I've had in a generation. Enjoy the moment...

The stats Kyle put up last yr and the stats Angeli was putting up this year shows not only their talent but how good our coaching is&how well they work together.
Collins did not show an obvious reason to be thrilled but he wasn't asked to nor needed to.
I saw nothing to make me concerned is what is most important. Imagine if we asked too much in that spot with play calling and he made a mistake and we end up losing?
He managed the game, we won and Def stepped up . Solid 1st step, confidence intact.
Coaches will have Collins ready. They will put him in good spots, they will set him up for success. Guys will step up.
Its amazing having confidence in coaching and having solid talent.
Wasn't long ago when QB1 went out injured and our best option was a freshman that wasnt even recruited...Dungey whotf? is Dungey? Then Dungey gets hurt and we gotta play a walk-on from the College of Dupage?, Zack Mahoney. Good thing we had a good qb coach at that time &those qbs were diamonds in the deep rough thanks to Lester. Mahoney did relatively well but he had no business starting for a P5 school.
2 years ago we had to run a damn wildcat offense with a TE playing QB!
So...We are good! We have come a long way quickly.
Remember when some people considered bringing in Angeli questionable? Why name Collins the starter and then bring in more competition? That was a thing.

which is it? Our defense gave up yards to Clemson because we were protecting a lead… but Tennessee wasn’t?
 
I’m a little worried about having such a young quarterback like Rickie Collins heading into those tough road games against Miami, Notre Dame, and SMU. Those environments can rattle even experienced players, so it’ll be a real test to see if Rickie can keep his nerves in check and stay composed under pressure. With Steve Angeli, I always had a certain confidence—even in the UConn game where he struggled, or in the Tennessee game where he was under constant pressure, he still managed to stay poised and keep the offense moving. That sense of steadiness gave me reassurance, even in tough moments.What I want to see from Rickie is that same ability to process the field, make good pre-snap reads, and handle the technical aspects of the position with maturity. The little things make a huge difference—knowing protections, reading coverages, adjusting at the line, and not letting the defense dictate everything. Another big key is getting the ball out quickly, something Steve did really well. It’s not always about making the highlight throw, but about managing the game and putting the ball in the hands of the playmakers. If Rickie can develop that rhythm and show that level of confidence, he’ll not only grow as a quarterback but also give the entire team and fan base the belief that he can lead them through these challenging games.

This is what every coach wants from their quarterbacks. Let’s hope his experience playing at LSU and in the SEC helps him being prepared for these environments.
 
While his time in the Clemson game was a little bumpy, it still is real-game experience against a legitimate opponent in a hostile environment with the game still yet to be decided. Yes, all three of those descriptions could be watered down a bit, but it is what it is: experience.
Something for Coach Nixon (and others) to build on, review film, etc. I think this makes a big difference, AND...he didn't fold. Duke is hardly an easy task, but I'm glad they are our next opponent. A legitimate test, but not overwhelming, and also, in a friendlier environment.
I hope to see further growth and a level of composure/command to further develop going forward.

Not meant to invalidate ANYTHING I just stated, but I would love to see the game in hand well enough to give the new QB2 some run as well. Stepping stones...

Exactly. All I want to do is win. If you told me that we could put Otto behind center and he would get 450 yards, no interceptions, and five touchdowns, I’d say put a helmet on that orange.

As a bonus, if he gets knocked down, he just rolls away. A lot less chance for injuries.

I was crushed for Steve, but not deflated. I really let myself enjoy that win.

Now that reality is setting in, it's so unfortunate given how well the offense was starting to gel. But that's football. Rickie has his opportunity and I'm confident he'll make the most of it. Getting a big crowd, key conference game, and facing a statistically bad defense for his first start is probably everything he could ask for rolled up into one.

I did not realize that any of us were not ready to see Collins in the 4th quarter of UConn.

If you're any team and you win the toss, you defer to the second half anyway. The bigger question is whether, if we win the toss, we take the ball to get Ricky in the game. I would not, but I would not have tried the onside kick either...

Fran has said he doesn’t have a fixed plan of always deferring or taking the ball.

We have Nixon. He’ll have a gameplan ready that is perfect for Collins. Look at all the wrinkles he pulled out against Clemson when the game threads at times were like, wth are we doing on offense. Myself included. I have no doubt we’ll have a plan that makes sense.

Let’s also remember. Collins came in and also didn’t lose us the game. I was worried Clemson might find a way back into it. Imagine an INT returned for a TD. That would have potentially been a huge momentum booster for Clemson. That didn’t happen. Let’s see how he handles a full game with a real week of prep.
