Rickie Collins

You don't make a change. Let him play next week. If they decide to make a change after that you have the bye week to do it.
We will lose if we don’t, maybe we will lose if we do… I’d base it on practice. I’d be thinking of practice this week as a qb competition… I’ve seen nothing from Rickie that says he can win football games

And I’ll add if it’s determined after next week a very noticeable change needs to be made. It could be one of three things:

1. Make considerable changes to the system to suit Collins.
2. Try the system with Carney.
3. Make considerable changes to the system and start Carney.

If it’s number 3, that basically would be the worst case scenario because that means Collins would be a complete bust of a QB and the guys behind him can’t operate the system as it is either.

Yup, 144% THIS.

We’ve now got a ton of film, and they’ve got a week to try to coach him up.

And also a week to try to modify the gameplan so that it is something he can actually do.

If it’s another stinker, then next man up after that!

We got pleasantly surprised when Dungey was forced into action as a Frosh.
Maybe Carney can make something good happen?

All that said - unless ERob’s D looks more like it did @ Clemson, and less like, well, pretty much every other game…
at some point Fran is going to have to make a very difficult, very personal decision:

The Block S, or his buddy.
Well we’ve checked the “Can be execute the Angeli gameplan?” box.

Maybe they can dredge up the Terrel Hunt game plan circa 2013.

I know this is currently a Rickie hate thread, but there were a couple drives where he strung together 4-5 nice throws in a row. But the momentum quickly shifted with bad decision making. It wasn’t a 0/10 performance. There is still absolutely stuff he can build off of for SMU. Thats all I got to say till next week. Was an honor watching this a$$ whooping with you boys.

If today wasn’t unplayable I don’t know what is. He literally dropped the ball on the turf during his windup.
Yeah my jaw dropped when I saw that. I looked over at my son and asked him if a defender stabbed the ball out and he was like I don't think so and then right on the jumbotron you just see it fall out of his grip. That was painful to see. Almost felt bad for the young man.

He’s not a running threat at all. No more mobile than Steve and for some reason everyone assumed he was. Fran wasn’t lying when he said this week he isn’t a running QB.
There is nothing in the 3 games Rickie has played to show he is capable of running this offense, and making the right calls.

I’ve learned to finally drop the bias. What you see is what you get. Typically a really good player is really good from his freshman year to a point. Rickie isn’t going to win us games and magically be an above average qb. If Carney is showing stuff as a freshman then go with him. I’m done with the old BS “he needs time to develop”. Kinda and kinda not. Dungey was showing signs IMMEDIATELY, yet he did also need to develop physically but the signs are there immediately. It’s not there and won’t be.

I don’t think game #6 is when you just give it a go with a freshman QB. Collins is likely the starter the rest of the way, IMHO. Unless several games go by and he becomes unplayable.
It's definitely an in case of emergency break glass scenario.

But, QB1 going down, QB2 looking rough... I've got to think they're thinking really hard about what they can get out of Carney's 4 games (he has 3 more to go to keep his redshirt).

If they think he can help them win, I think they'd want to get him in quickly. There are 7 games left. It'll be pretty dumb to blow his redshirt on 5 games, where one of them was a game he played one snap in. I think you can make the year worth it if he appears on at least 6.

And the bowl game.

FFFFF preserving a redshirt.

We need to win games.
Now. Right now.

This isn’t putting him into some blowout (in either side) to run a handful of plays.

We legit need semi-competent QB for the remainder of the season.

I agree. But I think they have to think about something that seemed like a very outside possibility.

And we have zero idea that competent QB is Carney.

2 weeks ago it was Rickie over Angeli. Now it’s carney or Ricki. In 2 weeks is it Jakhari over Carney? Lather rinse repeat.

I am having flashbacks to Carlos Del-Rio Wilson. Highly rated transfer QB from an SEC school. CDRW had numerous opportunities but fell way short. Not a P5 QB. Star ratings are one thing but ball don't lie. He just wasn't good.

I think we're beyond worrying about his redshirt. Our entire season hangs in the balance, that's worth burning a year.

Listen, I recall there were some questions about Angeli after the first couple of games. But he made great strides in a few weeks. Will Rickie do the same? God I hope so.
But he at least put up points even when he struggled, you just scored 3 points at home against a team that was giving up a lot of points and made them look like the 85 Chicago Bears.
