Rickie Collins

Collins on short leash. Carney will start second half. He should start the whole game. Bad call coach.
Why tip your hand and who says Collins will play the whole first half if he stinks it up. We don't what's going on at practice and if Luke is getting a lot of first team reps as well. The more you can surprise your opponent the better. Look what happened last year when they ran wildcat all game long. Pitt wasn't ready for that.

That's another loss, and at this point Fran will ride out the season with Rickie. Everyone better hope a bell rings with Rickie because he is the Starter the rest of the year.
Fran said Collins is the starting qb. Does that mean he won’t put Carney in if things are going bad? We will have to see what happens on Saturday. He is not going to give his secrets away. What we don’t know for sure is whether Carney is any better than Ricky. Fran knows so I guess we have to trust his decisions. That’s all we can do. Fran’s the HC. Go Orange!

The best surprise was to start Carney. Cut the losses and see what Carney can do. Narduzzi did not have an issue.

Fran What are we doing here man? Are you trying to win or no. Like seriously. I’m mind blown by this

Why is everyone assuming we know what Fran will do? Beyond starting the Pitt game he’s made no declarations.

What is the upside to disclosing his thinking except to throw red meat to a frustrated fanbase? It’s less pressure on both QB’s if status quo is the official word.

We are all frustrated let’s just take a deep breath and see how things play out this weekend.

i would rather he gets the full game than having him inserted in a desperate situation. let him have his own game with his own success or failures and not trying to right a sinking ship.
I agree. Note that I didn't say Collins has to start. Just that saying Collins will start probably helps Carney a little.

Narduzzi probably prepared for both but who knows. The Nard Dog is unpredictable.

Narduzzi is still wondering who the heck is the tight end playing quarterback. That and why can’t I coach Ped state. Pitt just won a huge game and take us for UConn

I'd be fine with the freshman Fab Melo treatment for Collins.

Because Fran himself made a big deal of how he is loyal to his starting QB. Granted he was referring to Angeli at the time, but so far nothing seems to indicate a change in that regard.

Or maybe it isn't a strange conspiracy, and the coaches know that Carney isn't quite ready. Yet.

Sometimes the simplest explanation is more realistic than throwing at the wall while crossing fingers.

I'm a huge proponent of Carney, but who knows at this point if he's ready?

Nobody said anything about a conspiracy.
But as stated by multiple people we don’t know about Carney, but we have seen Collins. If Collins can turn it around, then great.

Pitt is a very bad opponent to break-in an inexperienced true FR QB. Look what the Pitt defense did to Kyle McCord last year. That defense is still ball-hawking receivers in the middle of the field this year and getting position for interceptions.

No matter who the SU QB would be, Jeff Nixon better have learned the lessons from last year's game about the plays he calls.

If Carney is to play this season, there needs to be a plan for how to gradually introduce him D1 ACC football (maybe as was done for Ryan Nassib). He probably shouldn't play at all vs Pitt unless it's late in the game and a hopeless blow out loss. Maybe get a few series at GaTech. Then get serious PT at home vs UNC.

Ok but that was about Angeli when he knew the gap between 1 & 2 and we didn’t.

He’s being loyal to Rickie but loyalty may run out at some point. Maybe after 3 games, 4 games or maybe 2.5 games. It’s football you’re loyal to your starter until you make a change

I get it.

But I keep hearing things thrown around like "loyalty," when I think it might just come down to a simpler explanation of Carney not being as ready right now, at this stage of his developmental curve, as Collins.

Doesn't mean that in another year he won't surpass him, or that his long-term potential might exceed Collins. But the coaches see these guys every day in practice.

I agree 100% that whatever "it" is, Collins doesn't have it. He still might be our best option to win three games.
